Op-Ed: Continued Journalistic Integrity? | CNBnews.net

Thankfully, the new owners of the Inquirer have signed a pledge not to interfere with the newsroom, as this will help to maintain journalistic objectivity and integrity. In unrelated news, some jobs at the newspaper may have to be eliminated for cost cutting measures. But of course, no connection. Two of three oil refineries could be saved from doom - Delco Times

By KATHLEEN E. CAREY In another report, Reuters is reporting that United Refining Energy Corp., owned by New York billionaire John Catsimatidis was interested in buying the 355,000 barrel-day Sunoco refinery in South Philadelphia. The report made no mention of the Sunoco's Marcus Hook facility. He said in a phone interview he would decide this month whether to make a bid for the facility. ConocoPhillips idled the Trainer facility in September and laid off about 700 employees in January. Read more by clicking here Graphic... Read more →

CNBNews Interview with Gloucester City Republican Party Chairman Wil Levins

cnbnews.net CNBNEWS-You have been busy trying to resurrect the Republican Party in Gloucester City. Though you are in the minority, what do you point to as a positive sign for your Municipal Party? WL - One thing we have tried to accomplish over the past two years is to show people that just because we are the minority Party doesn't mean we are an irrelevant Party. In 2011, Republicans won in Gloucester City polls for the first time in decades. Though we were not successful... Read more →

False Fears About a Nuclear Iran: We've heard this warning before. It's still wrong.

by Steve Chapman | February 13, 2012 Why is everyone so eager to plunge into another war? Because of another false fear: that a nuclear-armed Iran will use its new arsenal to obliterate the Jewish state or bully its neighbors. This panic requires a total disregard for everything we have learned during the nuclear age. Over the past 60 years, assorted enemies and rivals have acquired nuclear stockpiles: the Soviet Union, China, Pakistan and North Korea. All of them have learned that they are useless... Read more →

Republican State Committee: It’s Time For An Open Senate Primary

Related: FREINDLY FIRE By Chris Freind cnbnews.net Endorsing Steve Welch ---who voted for Obama --- would make the Party a national laughingstock To say the Republican presidential primary has become interesting would be a gross understatement. With three different winners in the first three contests --- an unprecedented situation --- everyone is asking why the frontrunners keep falling and why the GOP base cannot unite behind a leader. Well, hold on to your seat, because here’s a big question: Would you believe that both Mitt... Read more →

"Domestic Oil Production is Up" - Only Part of the Full Story | cnbnews.net

by Wil Levins (cnbnews.net)Last night, a friend asked me via facebook if what the President was saying about domestic oil production was true. Below is my cursory response - The President is right that domestic crude oil production is up in the United States because of the North Dakota oil finds, shale oil production in Texas, and other various on-land and off-shore drilling operations. And he is also correct that these domestic oils are being exported overseas. But, I know firsthand that this is actually... Read more →

Helping Small Business is Smart Public Business - CNBnews.net

by 5th District Assembly Candidate Wil Levins Our elected representatives must be advocates for New Jersey’s small businesses if we are to put the unemployed members of our talented workforce back on the job. Small businesses employ the highest percentage of New Jersey’s private sector workers and pay some of the largest portions of state tax revenue. Small businesses also create the majority of all new jobs. Being advocates for small business doesn’t mean handing out government goodies - it means removing a number of... Read more →

Assembly Candidate Levins: Cutting Waste Lowers Spending and Taxes

by Wil Levins (CNBNEWS.NET) I was recently speaking with a group of public employees who work for various prominent State Agencies and listened as they shared examples of profound wastefulness that occurs in our State government. From not utilizing a common database for sharing departmental information to failed inter-office policies that prohibit corporate taxes from being paid on time electronically were among the many ways our State’s inefficient operating methods squander New Jersey taxpayer’s dollars. So why should you care? Government Agency operating costs all... Read more →

Levins for Assembly: Applying Practical Term Limits

By Wil Levins Applying Term limits is one of the restrictions many voters support as it takes power away from career politicians and gives it back to the People. However, no one seems to have an answer for how to keep good representatives in office longer while also allowing for term limits on poor politicians. My solution utilizes the “Will of the People” by looking at the votes cast on Election Day to provide us with a path forward. When elected to our State’s Assembly,... Read more →

Levins Endorses Three Candidates for Gloucester City School Board

Fellow residents of Gloucester City, I wanted to take this opportunity to express my support for three candidates who will be excellent representatives for Gloucester City’s Board of Education. Jackie Borger, who is an incumbent member of the Board of Education and chairs its finance committee, has done an excellent job of keeping our School system’s costs and spending under control. She is a stalwart advocate of fiscal responsibility and has done well in keeping the concerns of our residents prominent within the BOE budget.... Read more →

A Community is about People

It is a shame that we in the public have to chase our elected officials for answers that should be offered willingly as part of their elected duties and commitment to our community. I am glad that after weeks of asking for information about the privatization of our Ambulance Service we finally have some being shared, though it still disappoints me that our governing body again uses a spokesperson to relay information to our residents. The numbers Mr. Lipsett has released are substantial, which is... Read more →

GCGOP to Councilman Marchese: It’s about communication and accountability

Guest commentary By Wil Levins Over the last few weeks I have written about the decision our City government recently made to change a vital healthcare service for our community. My concerns about privatizing our ambulance service and those of other citizens were evident by the many questions asked at the City Council Meeting last Thursday night. Unfortunately, the answers were fewer than the amount of questions asked, which leaves me to draw the following conclusions: a.) Our governing body doesn’t know all the answers... Read more →

GCGOP to Mayor James: Inform the People!

GUEST COMMENTARY BY WIL LEVINS I believe Mayor James and our City Council have had ample time to respond to the questions asked by our community’s residents about privatizing our City’s ambulance service. The Gloucester City GOP now calls on Mayor James, Councilman Spencer, Councilman Perry or Councilman Marchese to issue a statement that fills in the blanks for the following basic information: 1.) In 2010, it cost Gloucester City______ dollars to operate our ambulance service. (A total that includes all manpower, benefits and logistical... Read more →

Where is the legitimate political discourse?

Earlier this week, South Jersey Citizens United released a statement decrying the Courier-Post’s decision to give George Norcross a seat on their editorial board. Though the Courier-Post is a privately held company that can appoint whomever they choose to their editorial board, I find this decision to be a sad testament to their lack of journalistic objectivity and political bias. READ THE SJCU PRESS RELEASE HERE There is no doubt that republicans are the minority party in Camden County, however this area of the state... Read more →

Gloucester City GOP: Accountability in Question?

I could not believe what I was hearing when I reviewed the latest Council Meeting video. Had the Mayor actually announced the governing body was limiting the ability of residents to openly question their leadership? I understand that Mayor James was attempting to minimize the amount of vitriol and personal attacks targeted at members of our municipal government but I wholly disagree with his method. I appreciate the difficulty of our elected officials’ positions and would always expect our residents to show respect, dignity and... Read more →
