by Yale School of Medicine Newswise — Drug overdose is the number one cause of accidental death in Connecticut, where someone is more likely to die from a drug overdose than from a car accident. Researchers are seeking to understand how to best prevent overdoses. A new Yale-led retrospective cohort study published in Drug and Alcohol Dependence examined the efficacy of a range of treatments for patients who survived an opioid overdose and identified treatments that are most successful in preventing subsequent overdoses. The investigators examined data of over 4,000 overdose survivors spanning a 19-month period, homing in on treatment modalities like medication and inpatient rehabilitation. The analysis found that people who took methadone or buprenorphine had a lower risk of further overdoses compared to those who did not take the medications. This real-world experience confirms what we see in clinical trials. Medications are shown to improve a range of...

LAREDO, Texas - A illegal alien from Mexico pleaded guilty Tuesday to transportation of child pornography following an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement with assistance from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Raul Velasco-Leon, 39, plead guilty to transporting child sexual abuse material on June 17. “This guilty plea is a critical step in holding Velasco-Leon accountable for the disturbing crimes he committed,” said ICE Homeland Security Investigations Laredo Acting Deputy Special Agent in Charge Mauro Lopez. “HSI remains committed to identifying, investigating and bringing to justice those who exploit children. We will continue working tirelessly with our law enforcement partners to ensure predators face the full consequences of their actions and that victims are not forgotten.” According to court documents, on March 12, Velasco-Leon was traveling from Tennessee and approached the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge attempting to enter Mexico. UPDATED/CORRECTED William E. Cleary Sr. | CNBNews Gcity's STREET SWEEPER IS BROKEN--The photo captures a moment earlier this week at the intersection of Sparks and Little Ridgeway Streets, just after the Gloucester City Street Sweeper made its rounds. Unfortunately, this $100,000-plus machine, which should be maintaining the city's cleanliness, is making the streets dirtier than they were before the sweeper passed. It raises an intriguing question: Why hasn’t Public Works Superintendent Alex Tedesco, with an annual salary of $121,000, taken the necessary steps to repair such a vital piece of equipment? Furthermore, as one observes the superintendent's pickup truck, it’s curious that there aren't any markings declaring it as part of Gloucester City Public Works. This absence only adds to the mystery surrounding the city's approach to maintaining the city sweeper that costs nearly half a million dollars. RELATED: NAMES BEHIND HIGH SALARIES OF GLOUCESTER CITY DEPT HEADS LISTED Gloucester...

Bill would prohibit promoting AI systems as Licensed Mental Health Professionals (TRENTON) - Legislation to protect New Jersey residents from misleading mental health advertising passed the Assembly Science, Innovation and Technology Committee on Monday. Sponsored by Assemblymen Dave Bailey, Jr., William Sampson IV, and Dan Hutchison, Bill A5603 would prohibit a person from advertising artificial intelligence (AI) systems as licensed mental health professionals. The bill would address the growing concerns around the use of AI in sensitive areas like therapy and counseling, and would ensure consumers are not misled into believing AI platforms are a substitute for licensed, trained, and regulated human professionals. “I have spent my career in the mental health sector, it is too important to be left in the hands of unregulated algorithms,” said Assemblyman Bailey (D-Gloucester, Salem, Cumberland). “AI can play a role in expanding access to care, but it can never replace mental health professionals....

OMAHA, Neb. — A recent worksite enforcement operation led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement revealed massive identity theft impacting unsuspecting U.S. citizens whose personal information was used by illegal aliens to gain unlawful employment at Glenn Valley Foods. The ICE-led multiagency investigation uncovered approximately 70 illegal aliens who were using stolen Social Security numbers and identities to unlawfully obtain wages, health benefits and employment authorization, leaving more than 100 real victims to face devastating financial, emotional and legal consequences. “There have been individuals who have gone on the record recently referring to the identity thieves we arrested last week as ‘good, hardworking, and honest,’” said Mark Zito, special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations Kansas City, which covers Omaha. “These so-called honest workers have caused an immeasurable amount of financial and emotional hardship for innocent Americans. If pretending to be someone you aren’t in order to steal their...

By Slim Randles | CNBNews Contributor We weren’t at all sure why Doc did it. Well, yeah, maybe human curiosity was the answer. Doc seemed to hate unanswered questions. It was about Sarah McKinley down at the Read Me Now bookstore. And yes, it was about the sign. Inside, you see, on the end of one of the stacks, Sarah had hung this sign, proclaiming the area to be for books for sale on “Love and Other Fiction.” Most of us just giggled a little and let it go. But that wasn’t true with Doc or Dud or Steve. All three of them wanted to know. No, they had to know. There’s a difference. So they had a meeting and elected Doc as spokesman because … well, he had these initials after his name. you know. So in went Doc one fine day in summer and bought a couple of...

From managing inventory to keeping customers happy, there's always something that needs attention. But one thing many retailers forget about is how important a good heating system can be. Whether the store is in a busy shopping center or a small town street, proper heating makes a big difference. This article will go through vital, clear reasons why every retailer should invest in a proper heating system. 1. Customers Stay Longer in a Warm Store When a store feels warm and cozy, customers linger longer, which increases the chance they'll buy something. Cold spaces push shoppers out the door quickly, cutting browsing time short, so comfort should shape how long someone sticks around and how much they explore. Even though heating might seem minor, it directly affects how engaged and interested customers stay while shopping. 2. Helps Staff Stay Comfortable and Focused Retail workers spend long hours on their feet,...

In 2025, the online gaming industry has seen the rise of skin-based virtual economies. Popular games like Counter-Strike 2 allow players to collect, trade, and sell virtual skins, as they have real-world value. In this article, we’ll dive into the rise of skin-based virtual economics in online games, focusing on CS2 as a prime example. What are Skin-Based Virtual Economies Skin-based virtual economies revolve around the buying, selling, and trading of cosmetic items. In the case of CS2, they are referred to as skins. These virtual items do not affect gameplay or give players an advantage – they are purely for cosmetic purposes. However, these in-game skins have rarities and can be traded with other players. This means the skins can be transferred from one person to another. These factors allow such skins to have real-world value – people buy and sell these items for real money. The CS2 Skin...

Credit Economic uncertainty can feel unsettling, with talks of recessions circulating widely. Many Americans feel unsure about their financial future. For instance, a CNBC All-America Workforce Survey found that 83% of employed adults worried about a recession, making it their biggest near-term concern. High inflation and the Federal Reserve's tightening policies are key factors contributing to potential economic downturns. While the exact timing of a recession remains unclear, it is always wise to strengthen your financial position. Taking proactive steps now can help you navigate economic shifts with greater confidence and peace of mind. Reevaluating Spending Habits A crucial first step in financial resilience is understanding where your money goes. Begin by listing all essential expenses, such as rent, utilities, groceries, and healthcare, ensuring these are fully covered. Next, scrutinize discretionary spending. These are costs outside of necessities, like unused gym memberships or streaming services. A 2021 Chase survey revealed...

William E. Cleary Sr. | CNBNews My father and mother, George and Mazie Cleary When I embarked on my journalism career in 1967, one figure loomed large as my inspiration: my father, George F. Cleary Sr. As a curious eight-year-old, I would press my small hands against the cool glass of the window, my wide eyes filled with wonder, watching as he hurried out the door to report on a fire. His heart raced, and a palpable energy filled the air as he intently listened for the distinctive sound of the horn that summoned volunteer firemen to emergencies. Each blast of the horn was more than just noise; it was a clarion call, a signal he had learned to decipher with precision. The unique patterns of the horn indicated specific locations, like a secret code only he understood. For instance, when the horn erupted six times, then paused before blasting...

The executive order signed recently strips out key pieces of a national tech directive issued just days before Biden left office, halting instructions that would have expanded agency control over software supply tracking, digital identity frameworks, and AI system accountability. While some post-quantum standards remain intact, most of the operational requirements tied to data verification and risk modeling have been cut, triggering confusion inside departments already preparing for compliance audits under the prior mandate. For institutions midstream in upgrades, the sudden shift has forced a scramble, not only in technical planning but in how risk is communicated across networks that no longer follow the same federal direction. The ripple effect is reaching sectors where system access and identity protection are foundational to day-to-day operations, especially in spaces where data exposure carries financial risk and user access has to remain uninterrupted, regardless of shifting regulations. Security models used by casinos that...

For far too long, the health, happiness, and well-being of our Nation’s men have been neglected, contributing to a troubling reality: men in the United States have a life expectancy five years shorter than women. They visit healthcare providers less frequently and often delay critical care. Men tend to have their first heart attack an average of 10 years earlier than women. This neglect has been compounded by a vicious campaign against masculinity. This war on manhood has left many American men in a state of loneliness, confusion, and emptiness, with devastating consequences: men in the United States are four times more likely to commit suicide and more than twice as likely to overdose than women. To boost your reach and stand out, you need real strategies that work. One smart move? LOS ANGELES CA.(JUNE 8, 2025)-- WASHINGTON - Last night, over 1,000 rioters surrounded a federal law enforcement building and assaulted ICE law enforcement officers, slashed tires, defaced buildings, and taxpayer funded property. It took the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) 2 hours to respond. Image Image Image Our ICE enforcement officers are facing a 413% increase in assaults against them. Disturbingly, in recent days, ICE officers’ family members have been doxed and targeted as well. These riots in Los Angeles and increased assaults on ICE officers come after Democrat politicians, including Hakeem Jeffries, Mayor Wu of Boston, Tim Walz, and Mayor Bass of Los Angeles, have villainized and demonized ICE law enforcement. By Slim Randles | CNBNews Contributor It’s the heat that defines us this month. It greets us at daybreak with its promise, but in an hour or so, it bears down on our shoulders and makes us dream of shade and something cold to drink. The best thing about our hot season, however, are evenings when most of the earth cools, and that breeze slides in off the mesa and caresses our cheeks. Then it’s time to sit, and laugh, and tell stories and just be with someone we love. Then is the culmination of a day we can be proud of. Inside each of us, we silently and privately applaud ourselves, because the hot day tried us, but we did it. All day. We made it through the heat today. Made it with our hands today. Made it through to another precious June evening when we can sit on...
