Van Drew Condemns Newark Mayor and Others for Attacking ICE Detention Center

"No one is above the law. And when elected officials act as if they are, they undermine the very foundation of our democracy." ~Congressman Van Drew Washington, DC (May 9, 2025)(CNBNews)--Today, Congressman Van Drew condemned the actions of three members of Congress and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, who, along with protesters, broke into an ICE detention center in Newark earlier today. "What we saw today is beyond unacceptable," said Congressman Van Drew. "These elected officials, who swore to uphold the laws of this country, chose to break into a federal detention center, alongside protesters. For months now, I have spoken out against Mayor Baraka's effort to block the opening of this detention center but today, we reached a breaking point. It was a direct attack on the rule of law. People in New Jersey are paying some of the highest taxes in the country, only to see that money used... Read more →

Democrats Rally Around NJ Mayor Seeking Gov. Office

Sean Spiller Statement on Today’s ICE Actions “What we saw today at Delaney hall goes beyond politics. It is about right and wrong. And that was wrong. To see Mayor Baraka taken out in cuffs because he wants to see with his own eyes - as Mayor of Newark - the conditions in Delay Hall - that was wrong. As I have said many times over the past months, the Trump administration isn’t coming for someone else, they are coming for all of us. As an immigrant I can see myself in the people being detained and I would want to know people were looking out for me. They can try to pick us off one at a time, but we won’t let them. I’ll be at Delaney Hall tomorrow morning, and I call on all the other candidates in this race to join me in standing together for justice.” Read more →

Democrat Mayor Running for Gov. in NJ Arrested by ICE

NEW JERSEY — Just now, the mayor of New Jersey’s largest city, Newark, and Democratic candidate for governor, Ras Baraka, was handcuffed and detained at an ICE facility. In response, Co-Executive Director of the Center for Popular Democracy Action Analilia Mejia released the following statement: “I am outraged at what I just witnessed at the ICE facility in New Jersey. Newark Mayor Ras J. Barak peacefully entered the premises and complied without resistance when he was asked to step out by the agents. Moments later, he was violently and unjustifiably arrested by the very same agents. "This is not just an attack on him — it is a blatant assault on transparency and the right of our elected officials to protect their communities. "Mayor Baraka was asking questions, and instead of answers and transparency, he was met with aggression — handcuffed and arrested by agents who chose escalation over accountability.... Read more →

A Full-Time Gloucester City Administrator is Needed Now

Three years ago, on April 27, 2022, CNBNews had the pleasure of speaking with Brian Morrell, Gloucester City's acting administrator and Police Chief, about the city's approach to abandoned vehicles. During our enlightening conversation, he shared important insights about enforcement, explaining that the responsibility lies with the City Housing Office rather than the police department. It's fascinating to note that, although abandoned vehicles aren't technically classified as a crime, the city's ordinance implies otherwise. When we discussed if an amendment was made to the original ordinance, Morrell honestly admitted he wasn't sure, which added an interesting layer to our dialogue. We believe that his responses were quite significant, considering his key roles in the community. As the City Police Chief and acting City Administrator, having clear and accurate information is essential. When he informed us that the Housing Office was responsible for enforcing the abandoned/derelict car ordinance, specifically Chapter 88,... Read more →

Consequently, we have witnessed widespread attacks across the nation, regardless of the vehicle you may possess. If there is any option to drive away, take it, even if it means breaking a traffic rule. Your safety is paramount. Use Your Byrna Launcher: If you cannot drive away and the assailant possesses a weapon that could break your window, or if your window is already down, you will need to use your Byrna launcher from inside the vehicle. William E. Cleary Sr. | CNBNews GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (April 3, 2025)--On April 2, 2025, CNBNews published a letter from Police Chief Brian Morrell, who spoke at the February council meeting about the January shootings on Ridgeway Street. Morrell criticized Sandy Reed, the Republican at-large candidate who is running in the upcoming November election. Morrell also took aim at the Republican chairman, Jason Fanning who, CNBNews believes, was responsible for bringing this horrific shooting to the attention of the public. As for Morrell outspokeness. CNBNews believes Morrell became vocal because he is afraid of losing his $230,000 position that he has held for the past five years if the Republicans win in November. Letter to the Editor: Vandalizing The Free Store and Harrassing Fetterman and Family is Wrong

We condemn the defacement of the Free Store in Braddock, Pennsylvania– an essential resource that provides food, clothing, diapers, and formula at no cost to the community. This attack on a charitable institution dedicated to fighting poverty and offering vital support is inappropriate and counterproductive. Targeting individuals or businesses because they support Israel is antisemitism—plain and simple. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Accusing the Free Store and its founder, Gisele Fetterman, of having “blood on their hands” is a baseless and malicious act. It harms the vulnerable individuals who rely on its services and does nothing to support the Palestinian people in Gaza. Attacking a charitable organization that serves those in need crosses a line that should never be approached, and only deepens division and pain. The harassment directed at Senator Fetterman and his family – at both their home and offices – since Oct. 7 is equally unacceptable. Signed by:... Read more →
