In Response to Commission Cappelli's Remarks on the United States Supreme Court Rulings

William E. Cleary Sr. | CNBNews Editor This week, Camden County Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr., a prominent political figure in Camden County, strongly opposed two rulings of the United States Supreme Court. One concerned a homeless issue in an Oregon community, and the other pertaining to the Court's decision on the immunity of Presidents of the United States. I am seeking more information on Commissioner Cappelli Jr.'s track record in addressing homelessness during his 21 years in office. I distinctly recall instances where homeless encampments in Camden City were forcibly removed, and I'm interested in hearing about the specific initiatives and programs aimed at assisting the homeless population in Camden County . He stated that the County has made progress but gave no details. Additionally, I am curious about the financial resources allocated by Camden County to provide shelter for undocumented immigrants who have arrived in the region during... Read more →

A One In A Million Guy

Andy Rooney was one in a million. At the end of '60 Minutes' he usually had Andy Rooney his own 10-minute segment that, unbelievably, was never censored by CBS. He's probably the only one who could have gotten away with this. Andy Rooney once said . . . “I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens....Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door. Peyton and Me Traveling through Gloucester City, Wildwood Crest, Myrtle Beach

UPDATED 6/17/24 William E. Cleary Sr. | CNBNEWS ANYONE DOWN THERE? --A few weeks ago Peyton found this uncovered manhole on Walnut Avenue in Gloucester City. The Public Works Department had placed a marker over it, but someone removed it. 700 BLOCK OF CHERRY STREET BECOMES DUMP SITE—For decades this area was just a vacant lot. But last year, the property was converted into a storage yard for industrial equipment, and a dumping site for old bricks and weeds. Residential homes are located in the same block. Why the Gloucester City Housing Office, along with the mayor and council, would allow this to happen is bewildering. NEW POLICE CARS--The Gloucester City police department recently acquired four new SUVs at a cost of over $100,000. Another "Mob Incident", Pennsauken Police Call for Mutual Aid; Third Time in Camden County

PENNSAUKEN TOWNSHIP, NJ (June 9, 2024)(CNBNews)--Several fights Saturday night among a large crowd of teenagers and young adults resulted in the early closure of the Township's annual Summer Kickoff Event. There have also been similar brawls at New Jersey shore towns. READ: CNBNEWS REPORT HERE In a prepared statement, Pennsauken Police Chief James Olivio said, On Saturday, June 8, 2024, the Township of Pennsauken hosted the annual Summer Kickoff event at the Soccer Complex. President Donald Trump Found Guilty; Case May Affect Outcome of November's Election

By Brett Rowland | The Center Square 2 hrs ago (The Center Square) – A Manhattan jury on Thursday convicted former President Donald Trump on all counts in his hush-money case, a history-making verdict that could reshape the 2024 presidential election. Trump was convicted of 34 counts of falsifying business records for disguising hush money payments to an adult actress as legal costs ahead of the 2016 election. Under New York state law, falsifying business records in the first degree is a Class E felony that carries a maximum sentence of four years in prison. Judge Juan Merchan has yet to set a date for sentencing. A jail or prison sentence could have implications for the 2024 rematch between Trump and President Joe Biden. NJ Comptroller: State Police Knew Minority Motorists Received Adverse Treatment But Did Nothing

CNBNews contacted Kevin D. Walsh, the Acting State Comptroller in September 2023. We asked Mr. Walsh if some actions taken in 2023 and 2024 by the mayor, council, and the upper echelon of the police department were legal. The following month, the CNBNews Editor, William E. Related: JUSTICE FOR ALL, NOT JUST FOR SOME Posted by the New Jersey Comptroller on - 05/21/2024 TRENTON—Key policies and processes that were put in place to address and prevent discriminatory policing by New Jersey State Police (NJSP) have been “largely performative,” and oversight has been ineffective for years, the Office of the State Comptroller finds. Is The Latest Development Plan for Gloucester City's Waterfront Just DEJAVU ?

Dorothy Philbin and William E. Cleary Sr. GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (May 18, 2024)(CNBNews)-In the August 24, 2023 edition of the Courier Post, there was a large article about upscale apartments to be built at Freedom Pier. However, nine months later, little activity was observed. I wondered if this is another of the many construction projects planned for the waterfront that have fallen through over nearly 40 years. Many of them were announced right before an election. Once the election was over, the plans were put on the shelf to gather dust. Not too long ago, ClearysNoteBook listed the many failed projects to refresh the public's memory. One of the biggest blunders was the 2004-05 plan known as Gloucester Vista. A month before the 2005 city election, a bus tour of the area sponsored by the incumbents up for election was offered to voters, showing where the new homes and marina... Read more →

Videos: Mobs of Teens Savagely Beat Victims

William E. Cleary Sr. | CNBNews The two videos posted here first appeared on Twitter first. Hollywood Actor James Woods published both of them, one on April 26 and the other on April 27. There is no mention of where these attacks occurred or what caused the women and men to act so violently. Actor James Woods Woods did write, “White woman pummeled by a mob of black males. But, of course, it’s not a hate crime.” However, further research revealed that the video with the male teenagers occurred in March 2023 at a mall in San Fransico. Some of the attackers in the Woods clip spoke Spanish. The second video is similar, but instead of teen males beating a white woman, that video depicts a group of black women viciously beating a white woman. It appears that this incident occurred in a school. As you watch these videos, several... Read more →

William E. Cleary Sr. | CNBNews GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (April 21, 2024)(CNBNews)--The mayor and council of Gloucester City are planning to purchase the former PNC Bank property located at 500 Monmouth Street. The PNC office in Gloucester City ceased its operations several months ago. The building has served as a bank for over 75 years. The council is also expected to approve on second reading the police department's salary schedule for patrolmen and officers. The PBA union has been working without a contract since 2022. GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (APRIL 21, 2024)--Early on the morning of Wednesday, April 17, the quiet Riverview Heights neighborhood in Gloucester City was disturbed by a loud banging noise. As the sun rose in the east, residents peeked out of their closed blinds to see a large group of armed men dressed in riot gear with helmets carrying semi-automatic weapons. GOOD BYE GLOUCESTER CITY

Dorothy Philbin | CNBNews For 115 years one member or other of my family has lived in Gloucester City. I am sad, in one way, to have left my hometown behind but I felt it was a necessity. I recently went through my yearbook and didn't see anyone I graduated with still in Gloucester City. Many have moved to Florida and are happy; happy enough to encourage classmates to move there with them. Gloucester City has always been a one-party city - that being Democratic. On January 2, 1933, the newly hired employees were listed in the Courier Post. Not only were the names listed but also the political party to which they were registered. Not surprisingly, they were all Democrats. That included my father who became a fireman the day before. Many years later, long after my father's death, my mother told me that I had to vote Democrat,... Read more →

WAS THIS A MIRACLE ?

UPDATED William E. Cleary Sr. | CNBNews GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (CNBNews)--I underwent a medical procedure at Cooper University Hospital in Camden City in early January. Wheeled into the operating room I was administered sedation, and the next thing I remember, I was waking up in the recovery room. Once the sedation wore off, I was released. While waiting in the hallway for someone to push my wheelchair to valet parking downstairs, my wife Connie handed me my wedding ring. She had been holding it since jewelry was prohibited in the room during the surgery. As she hands me the ring, it slips out of my hand and falls to the floor, rolling down the hallway and out of sight. I got up to look for it, but a nurse warned me to get back in the wheelchair to avoid falling. I explained the situation, and several medical staff our wedding... Read more →

Justice Must Be for All, Not Just a Few

Recently, William E. Cleary Sr. CNBNews Editor and Publisher, and his son, William E. Cleary Jr., had to endure such a stressful situation due to false charges brought against them by the Gloucester City Police Department. Over several months they were summoned to court six times to answered charges of trespassing and theft that were never proven. Not knowning how many more times they would have to appear in court they pleaded guilty to a plea agreeement and each had to pay a $500 fine. It is even more disheartening to know that some of the people responsible for this are none other than the judge and the prosecutor who were supposed to uphold justice in Gloucester City. Those responsible not only harmed the reputation of the Cleary family but also undermined the integrity of the court system. And their actions reflected poorly on the community of Gloucester City. Cleary's Faced With Mounting Legal Costs and Criminal Fines Surrender; Accept Plea Deal

"Never pick a fight with people who buy ink by the barrel." ~Mark Twain UPDATED/CORRECTED William E. Cleary Sr. | CNBNews Editor As some of you may already know, my son and I were charged with trespassing on the Cold Springs School property and accused of stealing a small child's bench last October. The bench in question was actually broken and discarded in a trash pile next to a dumpster. If I had managed to fix it successfully, I would have given it to one of my great-grandchildren. On October 10, a video of the two of us behind the Cold Springs school placing the bench in my car appeared on the City Police Department's Facebook page. The caption that was published with the video implied that the two of us were thieves. It read, "The GCPD is investigating a robbery from Cold Springs School; if you recognize the individuals... CNB NEWS: February /March Cheers and Jeers

JEER—According to salary.com, the average salary for a Chief of Police in New Jersey is $131,100, with a typical range between $123,800 and $139,100. However, here in Gloucester City, the police chief is paid a salary between $125,000 and $240,000, but for some strange reason, the exact amount of this employee's compensation is not listed. This is a secret being kept from the taxpayers by their elected leaders, and it's unacceptable that such information is not disclosed. Once again, the residents are kept in the dark, and they are the ones paying the chief's salary. Shame on Mayor Baile and his six "YES Puppets" (Baus, Berglund, Cilurso, Johnson, Page, Timm)who continually vote to raise property taxes. Since 2018, Baile and his Puppets have been responsible for Gcity being listed in the Top 30 communities with the highest taxes in NJ. Guest Opinion: A Salute To Bill "The Pen" Cleary

This article was first published in November 2013 By JOHN REYNOLDS Diary of a Madman Browsing the web the other day, checking up on the goings-on around town on my favorite local website, I was saddened to learn that after October 31, 2013, Bill Cleary will stop publishing new content to his site, ClearysNoteBook. The only independently run, small-town news source in South Jersey is shutting down. His site's been running since 2006 when he launched ClearysNoteBook onto the Internet after spending almost 40 years in the newspaper business in Gloucester City. Bill must be past retirement age, so I wasn't surprised he's finally taking a break. Running a one-man newspaper shop consumes a lot of time and energy, even for a young guy. He was nearing retirement when he started his site, which is amazing, considering the learning curve involved in going from print to digital publishing. And he... Read more →

Deadly Fire in Camden City; My God, Not Again

Dorothy Philbin | CNBNews CAMDEN CITY, NJ (March 11, 2024)(CNBNews)--Today's headlines should sound familiar to many, if not most, people of Gloucester City: "Firefighter equipment malfunctioned during a blaze in Camden, delaying efforts to rescue a person who died." There is no good news here but one might think that ONLY one person died in Camden, needlessly, where 20 years ago Gloucester City lost three little girls and three firemen, again needlessly. "The dwelling fire broke out on Newton Avenue. Several people escaped and told Engine Company Eight (firemen) the first-arriving unit - that a resident was trapped on the second floor. "Firefighters confined and extinguished the second-floor fire. But mechanical issues with their apparatus caused their hose to go limp several times, forcing personnel to retreat to the safety of the stairs, according to the Camden Fire Unions."* Another truck arrived and provided water, allowing Engine Company Eight (firemen)... The Red-tailed hawks are the most common hawk found on the North American continent, living year-round in almost every state, including New Jersey. Their population increases even more during the winter, when birds that have spent their summer in Canada come down to join the others in the U.S. Red-tailed hawks are most active during the day or early morning and are commonly seen soaring looking for prey with their amazing vision or perched along the roadside on telephone poles. VIDEO: If You Think It Can't Be Done, Think Again

William E. Cleary Sr. | CNBNews “I am only one, But still, I am one. I cannot do everything, But still, I can do something; And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.” by Edwin Osgood Grover ======== courtesy of Fox News Nation It's understandable that people may feel powerless when it comes to changing the members of their city council or school board. However, the residents of a Michigan community were facing high property and school taxes, which left them feeling frustrated and helpless. They decided to take action and voted out the entire governing body. They made a brave move and changed the locks on the offices as a sign of their determination to bring about change. It's admirable to see people standing up for what they believe in, and we hope that their voices are heard. Communities across... Read more →

Underage Pot and Alcohol Use Has Risen in New Jersey

By Christian Wade | The Center Square contributor Dec 18, 2023 Monkey Business Images | Shutterstock.com (The Center Square) — New Jersey lawmakers are moving to tighten laws around young people who drink alcohol or use cannabis in public. A proposal, which was narrowly approved along party lines by the state Assembly's Judiciary Committee, would repeal a law that bars criminal penalties and parental notification for underage drinkers and pot smokers. If approved, the measure would authorize police to issue $100 fines and summonses to people under 21 who consume alcohol in public, and a written notification to a parent or guardian will be required for a person under 18. Before advancing the bill, lawmakers amended it to remove language that would have allowed police to stop and search underage youth they spot with alcoholic beverages. The changes come as Jersey Shore mayors complain to state lawmakers about rowdy, underage... Read more →

Student's Test Scores in Gloucester City School District Sink to All Time Low

Dorothy Philbin | CNBNews NJSpotlight News announced on December 12, 2023, the results of the 2023 school year standardized testing. This year's results were also compared to last year (2022) and 2019, the last year before COVID. Gloucester City's results were embarrassing. High School - no results reported for 11th grade ELA (English Language Arts) or Math. Of the 160 students who took the Science test, only 10.7% scored passing or proficient in 2023. In 2022, 16.0% scored passing or proficient; in 2019, it was 4.5%. The good news is that about 2.5 times as many of our students scored well, but if the 11th grade scored 4.5%, there is no way to go but up. Middle School - the 142 8th-grade students almost scored well in ELA. There were 60.6% who scored passing or proficient in 2023. This is an improvement over last year (2022) when the number was... How much is Your Child's Education Worth?

Dorothy Philbin | CNBNews Columnist Trace Gallagher, a Fox News anchor, presented a story on December 5, 2023, in which the reporter presented evidence that our (America) students' math scores are now the lowest ever. It has been known for years that our students' English/Reading scores have been declining. Yet, we in New Jersey continue to pay extremely high school taxes. What are we getting for those tax dollars? CNBNews graphic file The state mandates much of the curriculum based on political ideologies. Here's an idea. Let's teach our students to read before we teach them pornography. Senator John Kennedy (R - LA) read aloud, in the Senate Chambers, from a lower elementary-level book mandated by the state of California. The television stations had to "beep" two out of three words to get passed the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations. Finally, another senator asked him to stop reading but he... Cleary Sr. | CNBNews GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ -December 1, 2023--Around 9:30 PM Thursday this reporter was sitting in the back room of our house writing an article about an upcoming trial. The room was quiet, but I heard a muffled sound coming from the direction of nearby North Harley Avenue, which is the street behind us. My best friend, Peyton was lying on the floor in front of me snoring. Suddenly, she jumped up and ran towards our back patio door; undoubtedly, she heard the same sound I did. Once the door was opened, she bolted down the steps towards our fence, barking. In the distance, more clearly now that I am outside, I hear someone yelling, "Help me!" "Help me!" I couldn't see anyone. I yell back several times. "Where are you?" This... Read more →
