Pictured Lions Steven Burkhardt against Palmyra The local Lions are currently 5 - 0 after defeating the opposition by a combined total score 225 to 47. The Lions are led my Senior running back Steven Burkhardt. Burkhardt is one of the League and South Jersey leaders for running backs, entering Fridays game against Pitman with 798 yards rushing and 15 TD's. Currently Burkhardt is #1 in West Jersey Football League with a total points with 107 and 17 touchdowns Across town the Rams are 0 - 8 being outscored 281 to 42 along with being shutout in 5 games. GHS pitcher Steve Gurcik (photo credit Bruce Darrow) WEST DEPTFORD, NJ (April 30, 2022)(CNBNewsnet)--Gloucester High baseball team played Cape Henry, Va. on Saturday at West Deptford. Cape Henry pitcher J. Lebel, kept the Lions off the bases for most of the game. GHS pitcher Steve Gurcik, the losing pitcher gave up 5 earned runs and hit two batters. Gloucester Lions Roar in City Series

The 2021 City Series was not much of a game as the GHS (9-1) Lions defeated cross town GCHS (0-11) Rams 56 - 0 with a second half running clock. With the win the Lions evened out the series at 23 with one tie. Pictured Mike Morrell The game featured Senior Mike Morrell, who sustained a season ending injury two years ago. Morrell #57 a team Captain entered his first action in two season. Morrell lined up as a wide receiver on the first play from scrimmage, With Morrell at receiver, recording setting running back Steven Burkhadt scored his first of four TD's on the day. Senior running back Burkhardt entered his final game as a Lion with a couple of GHS records in sight. BROOKLAWN NJ (July 2, 2021)(CNB SPORTS)—Carmen Palmiero formerly of Brooklawn was an outstanding all around athlete at Gloucester City High School in mid 1950’s. Palmiero was a 4 sport star playing Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track. Palmiero headed to Penn State after his graduation where he excelled in Basketball. Today we see the beginning of the Brooklawn American Legion's Dynasty in the State of New Jersey. Brookers Coach Joe Barth assembled the locals into a team that for the next 50 years would capture 30 State Titles. GHS Lady Lions Improve to 6 - 0

The Gloucester City High School Lady Lions Basketball team improved to 6 - 0 in the Colonial Conference with a 40 - 25 win over visiting Gateway. Led by Senior Allyson Velez's 14 points and 12 points from strong inside play of Emily Keith the Lions stayed at the top of the Division. The Lions trailed Gateway 16 - 15 at halftime, but the second half was all Lions, winning the second half 25 - 12. Gateway dropped to 3 - 2 with both losses at the hands of the Lions. Lions Opening Day Winner 50 - 14

The much anticipated 2020 GHS Lions Football got off to an impressive start in Lindenwold winning 50 - 14. The opening kickoff saw the Lions kick returner Chris Dolson ramble down to Lindenwold 35 yard line before Steven Burkhardt started to scoring. Quickly the Lions defense confused the Lindenwold Lions offense resulting in a muffed punt setting up the Gloucester Lions for another score. The Lions along with other New Jersey High School's will play a limited shorten campaign. The Lions who competed in the Tri-County Conference for over 50 years will compete in all sports beginning fall 2020 (except Football) in the Colonial Conference. 2019 Gloucester City Lions Homecoming

GLOUCESTER CITY,NJ—Homecoming 2019 was not very nice to the host Lions. The evening was upbeat and friendly with an Alumni tailgate party, the introduction of the GHS ROTC Color Guard and the crowning of Homecoming Queen Vanessa Pino and her Princess. Audubon Courts Reunion

On Saturday night a Reunion of former players from the basketball courts in Audubon was held at the Kove in Audubon. The idea of bringing to together former High School, College and National Basketball Standouts who worked their skills on the legendary Courts was brainstorm of Carmine Calzonetti a Gloucester Catholic graduate. In attendance were professional coach's, NBA Champions, players with NBA numbers retired, NCAA March madness winners and NCAA Coach of the year. Most in attendance where former High School State Champions. Players from Camden Catholic, Gloucester Catholic, Gloucester, Audubon, Merchantville, Bishop Eustace and other schools were New Jersey State Champions during the 1960 - 1969. With the lopsided win the Lions were able to showcase many underclassman in the second half. Gloucester saw 4 different players score, while Qb Nate Kidd completed all his pass attempts. Gloucester City HS Football suffers 1st Loss

UPDATE SEPT. 17: EDITOR'S NOTE: We received one inquiry about the response time of the ClearysNoteBook files Gloucester City ambulance, and a second inquiry about the type of injuries the players suffered. We spoke with a Gloucester City Police Officer who was at the game. He told us that the Gloucester City ambulance most likely was on another call, however, both the Bellmawr and Westville ambulance responded to the call. He said before those ambulances arrived a GCFD truck came and firefighters treated the injuries. As for the injuries, he said four GHS players had to be taken to the hospital. Two were in the first quarter. The first player had a concussion and they evaluated him for a while before deciding to call for an ambulance. The other player also had a concussion. Brooklawn American Legion Pitcher Mike Shawaryn Signs Deal In Boston

Bruce Darrow | CNBNewsnet Former Brooklawn American Legion and GCHS graduate and World Series Pitcher Mike Shawaryn agreed to terms on Thursday to become a Boston Red Sox. Shawaryn now joins former Brooklawn American Legion and GCHS graduate and World Series Pitcher Tyler Mondile as a professional balplayer, who inked a deal with the Cincinnati Reds in June. The combined signing bonus of the former Brookers exceeds $1,000,000. Shawaryn joins in Boston 1st round draftee Jason Groome who recently pitched in the classic duel with Tyler Mondile and the GCHS Rams at Campbell field. Camden County Miracle League Opening Day Held at Boundless Field | Camden County, NJ

May 5, 2016) - The Freeholder Board, children and adults with special needs, and community volunteers marked opening day for the Camden County Miracle League on Saturday. Rowan College 34 - 12 (formerly Gloucester County College) has remained ranked #1 in the Nation Division III baseball for a third straight week. During the past week the Roadrunners beat larger Division II #3 nationally ranked Mercer College with a 43 - 8 record twice (14 - 0 and 6 - 4) and defeated Division I #10 nationally ranked Harford MD 19 - 8, who entered the game winner of a nation leading 29 straight wins and a 43 -8 record. UPDATED (CNBNEWS)BROOKLAWN N. J. APRIL 11, 2016--On Saturday, April 9, the Annual Tom Mac Adams - Eileen Vitola 5K Run and Walk benefiting ALS research was held. As the 5k event was about to start the participants were greeted with April snow flurries. However, 18 minutes later as runners/walkers crossed the finish line the snow had changed to a steady rain. Over 200 runners braved the 33-degree temperature throughout the Brooklawn course showing their support for their friends. APRIL 6, 2016)With the 2016 stage sure to be bright, Mondile’s opening act Wednesday afternoon did not disappoint, as he fired a no-hitter in Gloucester Catholic’s 7-0 victory over Tri-County Conference opponent Pennsville. At least 15 MLB scouts attended to watch Mondile strike out 10 with two walks on about 75 pitches. His velocity sat between 90-92 mph, with his first and last pitches of the game topping out at 93.
