Brooklawn American Legion headed to State Playoffs

BROOKLAWN, NJ (July 22, 2024)(CNBNews)--The Brooklawn Legion Baseball Team has headed north to defend their 2023 State Championship and their 31st State Title. The Dennis Barth Bulldogs have traveled the country from New Jersey to Nebraska to Georgia and all states in between to prep for this Tournament. This season, with fewer American Legion Teams, the annual Camden County American Legion District Playoffs was abandoned in favor of an eight-team state-wide tournament hosting eight of the top teams. On Sunday, the Brookers defeated Montgomery Superior 3-1 and followed that up with a Monday rainout and played Tuesday with a 3-0 win, defeating Lawrence. The locals will play on Wednesday at 12:30 PM. at the Wood-Ridge Athletic Center, 200 Johnson Drive, Wood-Ridge, NJ. Lions improve to 7-1; Host Playoff Game this Friday

GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ ((October 21, 2023)(CNBNews)--Gloucester High School Lions won their 7th straight game on Friday night, October 20. Their only loss was to Schalick on the opening day of the season. Pictured Lions Jake Zearfoss Friday evening was the GHS Homecoming Game where the Lions hosted Collingswood High School. Lions suffer loss in final minute

CNBNews photo PITTSGROVE, NJ (August 25, 2023)(CNBNews)--The Gloucester High Lions traveled to Schalick for the 2023 football Non Conference opener. The Lions took the opening kickoff and started play outside the 20 yard line. After a few runs and a penalty, the Lions turned to the arm of Senior Qb Jake Siebert. Siebert completed 3 first down passes before connecting with Jaden Garris on a 22 yard TD reception with 4:32 remaining in the 1st qtr. giving the Lions 6-0 lead after a missed pat. Lions open 2023 Football Season Friday at Schalick HS

The local GHS Lions Football team opens the 2023 Season, Week Zero Friday August 25 at Schalick.High School. The Lions a Central Jersey runner-up in 2022 return many key players. The Lions have beaten Schalick 3 of the last 5 games, including a 21-0 win in 2022. The Lions shared the West Jersey Football League title with Deptford HS last season but return many key players who should make the Lions the pre-season favorite to win the WJFL Championship this season. Lions offense is led by running back Jake Zearfoss, who will run behind Damere Finlay. Finlay's biggest contribution is on the Defensive side of the ball where he is considered one of the best in the area. His 100 tackles the last two season makes him game changer on defense. Shot Club Shootout Tommy MacAdams Fundraiser

All proceeds benefit the Brooklawn School. MacAdams who lost a battle to ALS 9 years ago was a former councilman and a lifelong resident who continued until his passing working to make Brooklawn the best possible community for its citizens. MacAdams was responsible for the slogan "God's Little Acre". MacAdams was one of the pioneers in elevating the Brooklawn Bees Travel Basketball Team when the Bees won the NYAA National Championship as 12-year-olds. Led by Senior 1,000 points scorers Aydan Hagan and Liam Gorman, these five y/o kindergarteners listened intensely and work through fundamental drills. This Annual 9:00 AM event is one of several ways the current Lions work to help build the Lions into future Champions. Thanksgiving Day brought beautiful weather, large crowds and the local Lions (9-3) a City Championship. The Lions pounded the Rams (5-5) in a game that saw more penalty flags on the field then players, 35-0. Early in the first quarter Lions #8 John Daily returned a Rams interception 47 yards for a quick touchdown. Then with time running out in the first half, Lions #2 receiver Leo Curran went 20 yards for a are fought TD. The Lions left the field at halftime leading 21 - 0. Then forced a running clock when they punched 14 more points in the 3rd quarter taking 35 point lead. (A running clock is when team takes a 35 point lead during the second half. Palmiero headed to Penn State after his graduation where he excelled in Basketball. Tragically Palmiero and a friend died in an auto accident driving home for Christmas Vacation in his Sophomore year. GHS Lady Lions Improve to 6 - 0

The Gloucester City High School Lady Lions Basketball team improved to 6 - 0 in the Colonial Conference with a 40 - 25 win over visiting Gateway. Led by Senior Allyson Velez's 14 points and 12 points from strong inside play of Emily Keith the Lions stayed at the top of the Division. The Lions trailed Gateway 16 - 15 at halftime, but the second half was all Lions, winning the second half 25 - 12. Gateway dropped to 3 - 2 with both losses at the hands of the Lions. Lions Opening Day Winner 50 - 14

The much anticipated 2020 GHS Lions Football got off to an impressive start in Lindenwold winning 50 - 14. The opening kickoff saw the Lions kick returner Chris Dolson ramble down to Lindenwold 35 yard line before Steven Burkhardt started to scoring. Quickly the Lions defense confused the Lindenwold Lions offense resulting in a muffed punt setting up the Gloucester Lions for another score. The Lions along with other New Jersey High School's will play a limited shorten campaign. The Lions who competed in the Tri-County Conference for over 50 years will compete in all sports beginning fall 2020 (except Football) in the Colonial Conference. 2019 Gloucester City Lions Homecoming

GLOUCESTER CITY,NJ—Homecoming 2019 was not very nice to the host Lions. The evening was upbeat and friendly with an Alumni tailgate party, the introduction of the GHS ROTC Color Guard and the crowning of Homecoming Queen Vanessa Pino and her Princess. But visiting Middle Twp provided many unhappy moments, when they handed the Lions an 8-6 defeat. The Lions score came on a fumble recovery in the Panthers endzone. Gloucester City High School 2019 Homecoming

The Annual Homecoming at GHS was held last night on the John Lynch Field. This year it celebrated the Alumni, with a tailgate party provided by the Holy City Publick House and a tour of the facility which many had walked through. Audubon Courts Reunion

On Saturday night a Reunion of former players from the basketball courts in Audubon was held at the Kove in Audubon. The idea of bringing to together former High School, College and National Basketball Standouts who worked their skills on the legendary Courts was brainstorm of Carmine Calzonetti a Gloucester Catholic graduate. In attendance were professional coach's, NBA Champions, players with NBA numbers retired, NCAA March madness winners and NCAA Coach of the year. Most in attendance where former High School State Champions. Players from Camden Catholic, Gloucester Catholic, Gloucester, Audubon, Merchantville, Bishop Eustace and other schools were New Jersey State Champions during the 1960 - 1969. GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (September 22, 2017)The Gloucester City High School (Lions) Football team defeated visiting Wildwood on Friday 47 - 8. With the lopsided win the Lions were able to showcase many underclassman in the second half. Gloucester saw 4 different players score, while Qb Nate Kidd completed all his pass attempts. Kyle Burkhardt led all Lions receivers with 2 catches for 74 yards and a touchdown. Gloucester City HS Football suffers 1st Loss

UPDATE SEPT. 17: EDITOR'S NOTE: We received one inquiry about the response time of the ClearysNoteBook files Gloucester City ambulance, and a second inquiry about the type of injuries the players suffered. We spoke with a Gloucester City Police Officer who was at the game. He told us that the Gloucester City ambulance most likely was on another call, however, both the Bellmawr and Westville ambulance responded to the call. He said before those ambulances arrived a GCFD truck came and firefighters treated the injuries. As for the injuries, he said four GHS players had to be taken to the hospital. Two were in the first quarter. The first player had a concussion and they evaluated him for a while before deciding to call for an ambulance. The other player also had a concussion. Brooklawn American Legion Pitcher Mike Shawaryn Signs Deal In Boston

Shawaryn now joins former Brooklawn American Legion and GCHS graduate and World Series Pitcher Tyler Mondile as a professional balplayer, who inked a deal with the Cincinnati Reds in June.
