AUDUBON, NJ (June 20, 2025)(CNBNews)--In South Jersey, Democratic Primary candidate Steve Sweeney blanketed the area with an array of bold political signs in the lead-up to the state primary election on June 10. Ten days later, many of those Sweeney signs are still standing, such as the ones near the entrance to the Acme Markets in Audubon.

Sweeney, a seasoned political figure, held a significant role in the New Jersey Senate from 2002 to 2022, representing the 3rd legislative district. He served as the 114th President of the New Jersey Senate from 2010 to 2022, wielding considerable influence and experience during his tenure. However, despite his extensive resume and the groundwork he laid, Sweeney captured only 7.2 percent of the votes cast, for a total of  47,181 votes, in a fiercely competitive primary election. The spotlight shone brightly on the eventual winner, Mikie Sherrill, who commanded a remarkable 34.5 percent of the votes, totaling 226,387.

REPUBLICAN PRIMARY FOR GOVERNOR OF NEW JERSEY

Jack Ciattarelli easily won the Republican primary, garnering 67 percent of the vote, amounting to 241,632 votes.

Ciattarelli, 63, a Somerset County native, prevailed over four opponents to claim the GOP nod, defeating former radio host Bill Spadea and Sen. Jon Bramnick (R-Union) as well as longshot candidates Justin Barbera and Mario Kranjac, a former Englewood Cliffs Mayor, according to the New Jersey Monitor.

“We won because our campaign is about people, not politics. It’s about vision, not division. We won because of our positive energy. We won because we talked about the issues that mattered,” Ciattarelli said at a campaign party in Holmdel Tuesday night.

The following candidates ran in the Republican primary for Governor of New Jersey on June 10, 2025.
