NJ Blood Services Hosts Blood Drive in Memory of Jherin Gorcey

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 25TH:
NJBS declared a blood emergency earlier this month, with less than a 1–2 day supply of critical blood types across the region
DEAL, NJ – New Jersey Blood Services (NJBS) is hosting a blood drive in memory of Jherin Gorcey, a compassionate young woman who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 16. The blood drive will be on Tuesday, June 28th from 1:00pm to 7:00pm at the JCC Jersey Shore.
Jherin was a vibrant and active member in her community and was known for her motivation to give back to others. This is the 14th annual blood drive in her memory, which have collected a total of almost 1,000 blood donations combined.
NJBS has declared a blood emergency due to less than a 1–2 day supply of critical blood types across the region. The warmer months, known as “trauma season,” bring more accidents and trauma-related injuries, increasing emergency room visits and transfusion needs. At the same time, donations typically decline due to travel, school breaks, and holiday schedules. NJBS has had to rely on out-of-state donations, an unsustainable fix for a state with some of the nation’s busiest hospitals.
WHEN: Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
WHERE: JCC Jersey Shore, 100 Grant Ave, Deal, NJ 07723
WHO: Blood Donors, Volunteers and New Jersey Blood Services Representatives
WHY: It only takes one hour to donate, and a single donation can save multiple lives. Roughly one in seven hospital admissions require a blood transfusion. Those in need include: cancer patients, accident, burn, or trauma victims, newborn babies and their mothers, transplant recipients, surgery patients, chronically transfused patients suffering from sickle cell disease or thalassemia, and many more.
To make an appointment at this blood drive, donors can call 1-800-933-2566 or visit this link. Can’t donate blood? You can still make a lifesaving impact by supporting NYBC’s mission through financial contributions or volunteering your time. Click here to learn more.
