Pantaleo “Leo” Pellegrini, Sentence to Prison for Embezzling Money from City of Hoboken

NEWARK, N.J. – Pantaleo “Leo” Pellegrini, the former Hoboken Director of Health and Human Services and Director of the Department of Environmental Services, was sentenced to 24 months in prison for embezzling money from the City of Hoboken and filing a false tax return, U.S. Attorney Alina Habba announced Pellegrini previously pleaded guilty to embezzlement and filing a false tax return before U.S. District Judge Michael E. Farbiarz in Newark federal court. According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court: While working for the City of Hoboken, Pellegrini embezzled money from the City of Hoboken by diverting approximately $223,500 in payments intended for the City of Hoboken to bank accounts he controlled. Pellegrini also embezzled money from the City of Hoboken by submitting approximately $234,432.60 in his personal expenses, which the City of Hoboken unknowingly paid. Kathleen R. Roberts (nee McGrory) AKA “Kathy” AKA “Kate” passed away peacefully at home in Cherry Hill, NJ on June 14, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Kate was 80 years old. Opioid Overdose Crisis: Medications Prevent Subsequent Overdoses

A new Yale-led retrospective cohort study published in Drug and Alcohol Dependence examined the efficacy of a range of treatments for patients who survived an opioid overdose and identified treatments that are most successful in preventing subsequent overdoses. The investigators examined data of over 4,000 overdose survivors spanning a 19-month period, homing in on treatment modalities like medication and inpatient rehabilitation. The analysis found that people who took methadone or buprenorphine had a lower risk of further overdoses compared to those who did not take the medications. Man Charged in Fatal Assault of Fellow Inmate at Camden County Correctional Facility

Camden, NJ – Detectives have charged a Camden man for causing the death of a fellow inmate following an assault at the Camden County Correctional Facility last week, reported Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay. On Friday, June 13, 2025, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit was notified of a death at the Camden County Correctional Facility. The victim – Edward D. Brooks, 42, of Newark, Delaware – was located unresponsive on his bunk at approximately 7:51 a.m. He was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 8:47 a.m. During the investigation, detectives reviewed surveillance video that showed an inmate – identified as Shaquan Shields, 29, of Camden – struck Brooks with a closed fist multiple times.
