Rowan On Fire at the Plate, Defeat Lynchburg 7-4, One Win Away from World Series

 
LYNCHBURG, VA (May 23, 2025)(CNBNews)-- Joey Bogart had three of Rowan's 16 hits as the #15 Profs defeated #5 Lynchburg, 7-4, to pull within one win of a berth in the NCAA Division III World Series, in the first game of a best-of-three series. The Profs and Hornets will play Game 2 on Saturday at 11 a.m., with the third game, if necessary, to follow at Bank of the James Stadium.

Bogart was 3-fof-4 with three RBI and two doubles and Marco Mannino posted three hits as the Profs outhit the Hornets, 16-7. Tyler Cannon had two RBI and two hits, including a triple, with Phil Sedalis getting two hits and two RBI and Brayden Davis adding two hits and a run. 
 
Righthander Mike Shannon (8-2) limited Lynchburg (4-18) to two hits through the first six innings, going 7.0 innings and striking out four. Steven Maiers closed out the game and earned his second save as he struck out three in the final two innings. 
 
Lynchburg rallied with three runs in the sixth and then tied the game, 4-4, in the seventh. But Rowan got the eventual winning run as Bogart led off the eighth with a double, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Harcourt and then score on Cannon's sacrifice fly in foul territory.

The Profs added insurance runs in the ninth when Bogart hit another double, this time scoring Jason Morgan and Damon Suriani. 
 
Rowan built up a 4-0 lead in the early going. They scored three runs in the second with back-to-back singles by Davis and Sabato, and an RBI double by Karson Harcourt. Cannon brought home Eric Sabato with a single and Sedalis hit a sacrifice fly to score Harcourt. 
Rowan added another in the sixth when Cannon tripled and Sedalis brought him home with a single. 

The teams are vying for a berth in to the NCAA Division III College World Series set for May 30-June 5 in East Lake, Ohio. The Profs are looking to make their fourth trip all-time and the first since 2021.
