Mosquito spraying throughout Camden County Friday

Early Friday morning the Mosquito Control Commission will be in the community spraying and surveilling areas throughout Camden County. Commissioner Jeffrey Nash, liaison to the Camden County Mosquito Commission, talked about being cognizant of standing water. “It’s important for homeowners to check their yard and get rid any standing water to prevent mosquitos from spreading,” Nash said. “Be sure to check flowerpots and other plastic containers for standing water. Being proactive have major impact on the mosquito population and help the hardworking people at the Camden County Mosquito Control Commission in their efforts.” Camden County Mosquito Commission will be conducting ULV “spraying” operations on Friday, May 23, 2025, between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. in the following locations, weather permitting: Cherry Hill Kresson Rd. Local Fire Departments Receive Operations Level Marine Firefighter Training

This week, the Gloucester City Fire Department, along with THEIR Mutual Aid partners from Camden City AND Bellmawr, will receive Operations Level Marine Firefighter training provided by Tri-State Maritime Safety Association. The training will give the firemen the knowledge to combat a fire on a ship. This training is paid through a Port Security Grant. Read more →


TSA prepares for busy Memorial Day holiday travel

Reminds passengers of the need for a REAL ID WASHINGTON — The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is prepared for Memorial Day weekend travel. From Thursday, May 22, until Wednesday, May 28, TSA expects to screen about 18 million passengers and crew. “TSA is ready for the additional passenger volume, and we look forward to welcoming families traveling during this peak period,” said TSA Acting Administrator Ha McNeill. “As a friendly reminder, to ensure a smooth screening experience, bring acceptable forms of ID like your REAL ID.” Since implementing REAL ID on May 7, 93% of passengers are presenting a REAL ID or another acceptable ID, such as a passport. JoAnn Mottram, 74 and 364 days, of Gloucester City

JoAnn Mottram (nee Zedalis), aged 74 and 364 days, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on May 19th, 2025. The daughter of the late John and Edna Zedalis, JoAnn grew up in Gibbstown, NJ. As a hairdresser in her early twenties, she had a chance appointment with a young college student who was home on summer vacation. This led to a 50-year marriage to Gloucester-native George Mottram. A longtime resident of Gloucester City, JoAnn worked in the tax office at the Municipal building. She was filled with love and always made anyone who met her feel special even when simply talking on the phone. JoAnn was also an inspiration to many. After surviving a life-threatening brain aneurysm in 1992, she proved just how resilient she was by re-learning to walk and talk again, and in short time, she returned to her witty self. Record harvests for both deer and turkey during the same overall hunting season is an historic first for Delaware, according to the DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife, and also a testimonial to the numerous hunting opportunities that exist for both species throughout the state on both public and private land. Autism advocate to visit Camden County Sheriff’s Office

On Thursday, May 22, autism advocate Alex Mann will visit the Camden County Sheriff’s Office to raise awareness and educate officers about autism. Since 2018, Mann has traveled to more than 500 police and sheriff departments in the Southeastern Pennsylvania and South Jersey regions. “Alex is a remarkable individual who is working hard to educate officers about how we can better serve our residents who have autism,” Sheriff Chuck Billingham said. “We are thrilled to welcome Alex to the Camden County Sheriff’s Office and cannot wait to see what we can learn from him.” Last month, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the Board of Commissioners launched the Blue Envelope Initiative, a new traffic safety initiative that will create a blue informational document to alert law enforcement if an individual has special needs during a traffic stop.
