Trump's Cutbacks Hurting America's Accredited Circus Arts School in Philly

$15,000 NEA Grant for funding end-of-the-year production withdrawn Philadelphia, PA (May 6, 2025)(CNBNews)-- With less than a month before opening night, the graduating class at Circadium School of Contemporary Circus has been dealt a devastating blow: the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has abruptly withdrawn a long-anticipated $15,000 grant that was to fund this year’s end-of-year production, The Garden of Earthly Delights. The decision leaves the show, scheduled to premiere May 30–31, 2025, as part of the Philadelphia Contemporary Circus Festival, in serious jeopardy. CNBNews graphic files The cancellation appears to stem directly from a wave of Executive Orders signed by President Donald Trump, which, alongside a broader slate of authoritarian-leaning directives associated with Project 2025, appear designed to dismantle the charitable arts and culture sector in the United States. The grant was applied for and is due in 2024, and has been in motion for over one year.... Read more →

Virtua EMS Begins Whole Blood Program

(May 5, 2025, Marlton, NJ) …Today, Virtua Health became one of the first health systems in New Jersey to carry and administer whole blood products through its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) division. Effectively immediately, specially trained paramedics can provide whole blood at the scene of a traumatic incident and during transport to the hospital—potentially saving lives. This is part of a national push for EMS professionals to provide more meaningful intervention prior to patients arriving at the emergency department. This expanded EMS capability is the result of a recent regulatory waiver from the New Jersey Department of Health. "EMS programs across the country have been advocating for this for a long time. We put plans into action immediately,” explained James Newman, Virtua’s vice president of patient logistics. “Bleeding is the leading cause of death for traumatic injuries. Empowering paramedics to administer blood at the scene, when they previously could only... Read more →

Greenwald Introduces Bill Requiring MVC to Process REAL ID Applications Online

The legislation aims to address the shortage of available in-person appointments (TRENTON) – As summer travel ramps up, New Jersey residents are scrambling to get their REAL IDs before the May 7 deadline. But when they visit the Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) website to make an appointment, many are met with a frustrating message: “No Appointments Available.” While the MVC has been adding more appointments in response to the increased demand and offering emergency slots for residents with imminent travel plans and no passport, many residents are still left in limbo, unable to secure an appointment. In response, Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald has introduced Bill A5632, which would require the MVC to establish and administer an online application for REAL ID identification cards and licenses. The REAL ID Act was passed by Congress in 2005 to enhance security standards for state-issued IDs, but the enforcement deadline has been pushed... Read more →

First Amendment investigation into Washington State’s new anti-Catholic law

WASHINGTON, DC (MAY 5, 2025)(CNBNews)--The Justice Department today announced it has opened a civil rights investigation into the development and passage of Washington State Senate Bill 5375, signed into law on May 2, 2025, by Governor Bob Ferguson, which appears on its face to violate the First Amendment. Washington State’s new law adds “members of the clergy” to a list of other professionals who are required to report information received in a confessional setting relating to child abuse or neglect to law enforcement or other state authorities, with no exception for the absolute seal of confidentiality that applies to Catholic Priests. Furthermore, the State of Washington’s new law singles out “members of the clergy” as the only “supervisors” who may not rely on applicable legal privileges, including religious confessions, as a defense to mandatory reporting. The Civil Rights Division will investigate the apparent conflict between Washington State’s new law with... Read more →
