On Thursday, April 17 at noon, at Camden City Hall, the Board of Commissioners will present a proclamation to the Parkinson’s Connection at the Katz JCC. This program provides fitness classes, wellness events, education and support for those with Parkinson’s and their loved ones. “Parkinson’s is a tough diagnosis to navigate, but the Parkinson’s Connection at the Katz JCC is a powerful program that provides support and guidance to those who have the disease,” said Commissioner Virgina Betteridge, liaison to the Health Department. “We are incredibly grateful to the Parkinson’s Connection for all the work they do and expect even greater things from them in the future.” Nearly one million people in the U.S. are living with Parkinson's disease and the number is expected to rise to 1.2 million by 2030. Mary Frances Mallard (née Newman), 85, of Somerdale, NJ, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025. Born in Boston, MA, she was the beloved daughter of the late John and Josephine H. (Collins) Newman. Mary was a devoted mother to Karen Lado (Eduardo), Jacqueline Taylor (Doug), and John Mallard (Rachel). She was a cherished grandmother to 13 grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to 16 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, John J. Mallard, in 2010, as well as her sisters, Margaret Demos and Joan Collins. Mary dedicated many years of her life to her work as a bookkeeper and retired after a long and fulfilling career. She will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her warm heart, and her unwavering love for her family. The fund has provided for the distribution of 400 trash receptacles. A trash can will be issued to the first registered registrant for multi-unit properties. If trash cans are left after the first round of distribution, additional units will be provided a trash can in order of registration. You will be contacted with a time for pickup of your trash can.
