On Thursday, April 10 at 11 a.m., the Board of Commissioners will join the Saint Joseph’s Carpenter Society (SJCS) to unveil the new workforce development center and community space in East Camden. The former warehouse space has been transformed into a multi-purpose community space that will be used by SJCS and partner organizations for workforce development as well as community and educational events. “This workforce development center will serve as a vital community resource for generations to come,” Commissioner Jen Fleisher said. “Not only will this space focus on workforce development but it will meet other needs of residents with its community meeting space, classroom for hands on courses and small office space for local contractors. Facilities such as this aid us in our continued mission to make Camden a city on the rise and I cannot wait to see the positive impact this center will have on this community.”...

1) POSTPONED ZOOtopiaries: Nature's Sculptures Debut and Opening Postponed Philadelphia Zoo has postponed tomorrow's debut of the new ZOOtopiaries exhibit due to weather. Due to the temperature dipping and the projected rain, the installation looks amazing but has been covered to protect the plants this week. The new projected date for this will be Tuesday, April 15th with arrival at 10:30am and program and debut at 11:00am. CAMDEN, N.J. – APRIL 8, 2025 – New Jersey American Water announced today it has completed its acquisition of the water system of Shrewsbury Township’s Alfred Vail Mutual Association community. The purchase of this system, which serves 265 customer connections, follows the approval of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs and the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, and is the second in the State of New Jersey to be completed through the Water Infrastructure Protection Act (WIPA). The state’s WIPA legislation was signed into law in 2015. It permits the sale of municipally owned water or wastewater systems that meet certain criteria. Loving and devoted husband of 56 years to the late Mary Louise Solly. Loving father of Gregory C. Solly (Joann) and Maria R. Engler (Michael). Cherished grandfather of Charles Solly, Benjamin Solly, Daniel Solly, Rhys Engler and the late Bran Engler. Butch proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Cloudy skies did not stop more than 230 Hofstra students from going out into the community early Saturday morning to garden at neighboring homes. The University's Annual Pride and Plant event connects students with local homeowners, who need help with yard work and planting. Participating students from the local area included: Olivia Douse from Haddonfield. Douse is studying Psychology. Kylie Gilbert from Burlington. Gilbert is studying Nursing. The beautification event, which started in 2017, was sponsored by Hofstra University's Office of Commuting Student Services and Community Outreach, directed by Anita Ellis. The number of student participants more than doubled in 2025, Ellis noted, and participating homes grew from 49 in 2024 to 76 this year. Older adults who’ve received the shingles vaccine may be protecting themselves from not only a painful virus, but also a devastating brain disease, as a new study published in Nature, finds the strongest evidence yet that the shingles vaccine helps cut the risk for dementia by 20% - more than any other known intervention. Researchers in Wales followed more than 280,000 Welsh adults and found that those given the discontinued shingles vaccine called Zostavax were one fifth less likely to be diagnosed with dementia over the next seven years, versus those who did not get the shot.
