Sewer project to close roads in Gibbsboro

Image001(Lindenwold, NJ) – On Monday, March 10, the Sherwin Williams Company will break ground on a major sewer project in Gibbsboro. The work will be completed in five phases and the first phase will close United States Avenue to Foster Avenue from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday for the next five weeks. The entire sewer installation project will take about six months to install the gravity line, force mains, build a pump station and then connect the homes to the system.

This project is the next step in the major revitalization effort at the site of the former Sherwin Williams factory commonly called the Paintworks surrounding Silver Lake. The Sherwin-Williams Company operated a paint manufacturing facility at this site from the mid-1800s until 1977. Years of direct waste discharge into Hilliards Creek and other factors led to widespread soil, sediment, surface water, and groundwater contamination, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

“This environmental remediation effort and infrastructure investment has been ongoing for several years and is focused on correcting more than a century of degradation and pollution,” said Commissioner Al Dyer, liaison to the Department of Public Works. “This next phase will aid in the overall revitalization of Silver Lake and the community to create a healthier and brighter future for this area. This will also take more homes in the borough off of septic systems and into the county’s modern sewer system improving water quality for residents.”

This project is owned and managed by Sherwin Williams. For questions and concerns, contact (856) 782-4935, www.SWHilliardsCreek.com or [email protected].
