WESTMINSTER, MD - Phil Sedalis hit a grand slam to power #21 Rowan to a 9-2 first-game win over McDaniel, with the Profs putting up the same score, 9-2, in the second game to sweep the doubleheader. Rowan improves to 4-1 on the year.
It was the second slam of Sedalis' career, with the last one coming in his first game as a Prof (at Virginia Wesleyan 3/4/23).
GAME 1
Jason Morgan was 3-for-5 with a double and RBI and Sedalis hit a grand slam, driving in four runs and scoring two. Nick Struble went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, as did Joey Bogart while Marco Mannino was 2-for-3 and scored a run.
A five-run sixth inning keyed the win as Rowan expanded on a 3-2 lead. Struble opened the inning with a single and eventually scored when Cannon was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. With Cannon, Mannino and Bogart on board, Sedalis connected on the grand slam to to give Rowan an 8-2 lead.
Rowan struck first in the game, loading the bases in the first inning with Struble drawing a walk to bring in Sabato. After McDaniel tied the score, 1-1, Profs added two runs in the fifth as Cannon scored on a fielder's choice. Sedalis reached base on an error and eventually went home on a single by Morgan to go up, 3-2.
Mike Shannon (2-0) earned the win, going 4.2 innings with eight strikeouts. Mark Grubb picked up a strikeout in the fifth inning and Austin Kreyenhagen finished out the game, tossing 4.0 innings and striking out three as the Profs' limited the Green Terror to six hits.
GAME 2
Sabato was 3-for-4 with two runs, Struble went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI and Sedalis was 2-for-5 with a run scored as the Profs again posted a 9-2 victory.
Starter Steven Maiers (1-0) went 5.0 innings and struck out six, with Zach Coluccio relieving him in the sixth and posting five strikeouts of his own. Christian Rice closed out the game in the ninth as the trio limited McDaniel (2-5-1) to just three hits.
Rowan jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first with RBI singles from Karson Harcourt and Struble, while Morgan scored on a fielder's choice and Sabato scored on a single by Brayden Davis.
The Profs added two more in the third with Morgan and Sabato again crossing the plate to give them a 6-0 lead. Mannino upped the lead to 7-0 in the sixth when his single scored Ben Maiers.
Rowan tacked on two more runs in the eighth from RBI singles by Chris Serrano and Tyler Cannon, which scored Mason Dorsey and Serrano, respectively.
Rowan will head to Florida for its annual Spring Break trip, playing eight games at the RussMatt Invitational from March 13-20.
