Rowan Women's Lacrosse Upsets #24 Christopher Newport, 14-12, to Improve to 8-0

RowanNEWPORT, VA - Elaina Corson scored two goals in the final three minutes as Rowan rallied to upset #24 Christopher Newport, 14-12, in women's lacrosse action, improving the Profs to 8-0 in the midst of their best start in school history. 
Fiona Lockhart scored four goals and Corson and Molly Green scored three apiece to lead Rowan to victory. Calista Burke also scored twice for the Profs. 
The teams traded leads in the fourth quarter but after the Captains tied it, 12-12, with 5:31 remaining, Corson scored the winning goal at 3:16 and then an insurance goal at :51 to give the Profs the win. 
Rowan had trailed, 8-3, at halftime, but stormed out in the second half, scoring six consecutive goals - with two from Molly Green - to take a 9-8 lead with under three minutes to play in the third quarter. CNU (5-5) would tie it, 9-9, before the quarter ended. 
Calista Burke and Hannah Lombardo gave the Profs a 12-11 lead in the fourth but CNU would tie it with 5:31 remaining to set the stage for Corson's gamewinner. 
Mel Rodgers faced 26 shots on the day but made seven saves to earn the win. 
The Profs, who picked up two wins on their Virginia Spring Break trip, will head to Scranton for a key regional matchup on Wednesday, March 26 in a 4 p.m. start.
