Rev. Deborah H. Piggins, 79, of Voorhees Township

PigginsOn February 15, 2025. Age 79. Of Voorhees Township. Formerly of Mount Laurel, Caldwell and Montclair. Beloved daughter of the late John Lincoln Piggins and Ethel Piggins (nee Hanwell). Adored sister of Brenda Piggins Rodstrom and the late Gwen Piggins Bryant. Devoted aunt of Kendra Coleman, Kerrie Hall, Kevin Bryant.

Deborah was born in Montclair and was a graduate of James Caldwell High School in Caldwell. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers University in New Brunswick in 1976 and Masters of Arts 1981. She formed a one-person company called Working. Deborah had a passion for providing guidance to worthwhile non-profits.  She loved giving assistance to these organizations. Deborah worked for EP Dutton and the publicity department. She worked for several years before she went the nonprofit world and followed her vocation to the Episcopal priesthood.

Deborah received her Masters of Divinity in 2005 from The General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church. Deborah was ordained to the diaconate on June 11, 2005 and to the priesthood on May 27, 2006. Deborah was an Episcopal Priest ordained in The Diocese of New Jersey. She served as Assistant Rector for Calvary Church in Flemington from 2006 to 2008. From 2008 to 2009, she was Interim Rector for the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Gloucester City. Deborah served as Interim Rector at St. Peter's, Perth Amboy from 2009 to 2011. She was Interim Rector at All Saints Memorial Church in Navesink from 2012-2014. Deborah also she served as Interim Rector at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Mount Holly. Her last clergy assignment was Interim Rector at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Wenonah from 2015 to 2016. 

Deborah also served the Diocese on Diocesan Council, the Board of Missions, the Anti-Racism Commission, the Cathedral Chapter, the Women’s Commission, the Sudan Committee, the Planned Giving Committee and the Disciplinary Board.

Relatives, friends, clergy, and parishioners are invited to Deborah’s Memorial Service on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 11 am at The Church of the Holy Cross: 40 Mercer Avenue, North Plainfield, NJ 07060. There will be No Visitation and please arrive by 10:45 am. Interment will be immediately following the service in the Church of the Holy Cross Memorial Garden.
