WIND STORMS PUMMEL LITTLE LEAGUE DUGOUT—Today, Wednesday, March 12, Peyton and Me noticed that the Little League dugout roof on the Nicholson Road side of the baseball field was missing. According to a nearby neighbor, the damage resulted from the recent intense wind storms in Gloucester City and other communities in South Jersey. The gentleman said a gust of wind lifted the roof off the dugout and dropped it on the concrete behind the structure. “Fortunately, it didn’t land on Nicholson Road or hit anyone,” he said. According to the National Weather Service, gusts from those storms reached as high as 50 MPH.  We have learned that the City's Public Works Department is helping with the repairs to the dugout.

Erin Go Braugh—At the end of February, one of the most innovative Irish decorations we have seen in Gloucester City was erected at the corner of Lane Avenue and Little Hunter Streets. It depicts Francis “Reds” Quinlan, the long-time O’Donnell’s Restaurant bartender known for his famous Manhattans and EggNog. A cutout of Reds stands behind a wooden bar surrounded by Leprechauns dancing and playing musical instruments. A few feet from Reds is an image of St.Patrick standing under a rainbow.

Reds passed away in 2017 at the age of 83. He previously worked at the New York Shipyard, Holt Logistics now owns the property, and at Luciens Manor in Berlin. Reds and his wife Rose, along with their seven children, were longtime Gloucester City residents. The family lived in the house shown in the photo for decades. Today, O'Donnell's sells marijuana products. The state of New Jersey legalized marijuana several years ago.

Brooklawn/Westville Say NJDOT Won't Respond to Inquiries About Timber Creek Bridge Construction

The repair work on the bridges crossing Big Timber Creek from New Broadway in Brooklawn and from Route 47 Westville has been delayed, according to Brooklawn Councilman Bruce Darrow.

The councilman stated that Brooklawn officials have contacted the state Department of Transportation (NJDOT) but have not received any response. “The one side of the Broadway bridge looks like it is finished. I was expecting to see a lane shift any day but I am still waiting. We have received inquiries from residents asking why no one has been working on the bridge for months. We contacted the NJDOT, and no one has responded to our questions.”

Martin Finger, Westville Public Works Superintendent, said the construction slowed down at the end of December. “But I have seen workers from Verizon installing utility lines along with “hardhats” putting together equipment that will be erected on the bridges. Like Brooklawn, we have tried to talk with officials from the NJDOT but have gotten no reply from their office. If I hear anything, I will contact you,” he said.

CNBNews called the NJDOT earlier today (Thursday) to ask why they don’t respond to government officials in Brooklawn and Westville. Like everyone else, we are also waiting for their response.
