Historic Sites Promote the Underground Railroad

Board gameThe Lawnside Historical Society and the Dr. James Still Historic Office and Education Center are uniting to present the Underground Railroad Experience on March 15 and March 16 at the Peter Mott House 26 Kings Court, in Lawnside and the Still Center in Medford.

Saturday, March 15 from noon to 3 p.m., game lovers will work together helping freedom seekers escape enslavement in "Freedom: The Underground Railroad" board game. Visitors of all ages can join in to help the abolitionists in the kitchen.

In the parlor, try out virtual reality "Escape to Freedom," where players use a controller to guide a family of four on their courageous escape on a journey to the Snow Hill home of Peter and Elizabeth Ann Mott. No advance registration is required.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.

At the James Still Center, 210 Medford-Mt. Holly Road, Medford, 11:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Historical actor Barry Moore will present a live performance as Henry Box Brown who shipped himself to freedom in Philadelphia from Richmond, Virginia. The Freedom board game, the virtual reality "Escape to Freedom" and the dramatic reading will round out the afternoon. The Still Center is requesting a donation.
