AUBURNDALE, FL - Tyler Cannon (Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) became Rowan's career leader in hits and Nick Struble went 4-for-4 to pace the #13 Profs' 12-2 seven-inning win over Southern Maine in the RussMatt Invitational. Rowan (11-1) has now won 10 in a row and has scored double-digit runs in all seven games of the tournament.
Cannon, who had been sidelined with an injury for the past four games, returned to the lineup and hit a two-run RBI single into left field in the fifth inning to record his 231st career hit in four years. He breaks the record of 230 previously held by Alex Kokos.
Struble hit two singles and two doubles to lead the way, while scoring two runs and driving in one. He walked in the seventh inning to bring home the run that stopped the game with the 10-run rule.
Mike Shannon threw a seven-inning complete game and struck out 10 to improve to 4-0 on the year.
Rowan trailed, 1-0, at the start but quickly came back with a pair of runs in the second, on a bunt single by Joey Bogart that scored Struble, and a ground out by Karson Harcourt to take a 2-1 lead.
Southern Maine (2-8) tied it, 2-2, in the top of the fifth, but the Profs exploded for nine runs to take a commanding 11-2 lead. Brayden Davis had a two-run single, as did Cannon, while Phil Sedalis, Jason Morgan and Mason Dorsey all drove in runs as well.
Struble drew the bases-loaded walk in the seventh to end the game, as Sedalis scored.
Rowan will close out the trip tomorrow when it faces St. Olaf at Chain of Lakes Complex in Winter Haven, FL, at 1 p.m.
