#17 Rowan Baseball Holds on for 17-11 Win over UMass Boston

RowanAUBURNDALE, FL - Jason Morgan went 4-for-6 and Chris Serrano and Phil Sedalis had three hits each as #17 Rowan held off previously-unbeaten UMass Boston, 17-11, at the RussMatt Invitational at Lake Myrtle Park.
Tyler Cannon picked up one hit to give him 230 for his career, tying the Rowan record for career hits held by Alex Kokos.
Morgan had two doubles and drove in three runs while scoring two. Serrano was 3-for-4 with two runs and a career-high four RBI, while Sedalis went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI for Rowan (6-1). Marco Mannino had three RBI on the day, as he had two hits, including a double.
The Profs seem to have things in control, building up a 12-0 lead through four innings, as Steven Maiers shut down UMass Boston (7-1), holding the Beacons without a hit in those four at-bats. Maiers (2-0) picked up the victory as he went 5.0 innings and struck out five.
Mannino had a two-run double in the second to get things going and Morgan and Serrano had run-scoring doubles in the third.
Rowan added eight runs in the fourth, helped by two-run singles from Serrano and Sedalis, an RBI single from Karson Harcourt, and an RBI sacrifice fly by Cannon to own a 12-0 lead.
Meagher picked up the first hit for UMass Boston in the fifth and Burris followed with a three-run home run to pull the Beacons within 11-4. Rowan answered with three in the fifth as Harcourt (sac fly), Serrano (single) and Mannino (double) all drove in runs.
UMass Boston had another big inning, scoring five in the fifth to pull within, 15-9. Rowan added single runs in the six and eighth, on doubles by Morgan and Sabato, respectively.
Rowan used four pitchers in relief of Maiers with Mark Grubb going 2.2 innings and allowing just one hit while Christian Rice closed out the game in the ninth with no hits and one strikeout.
The Profs are back at it on Saturday morning against Mitchell at 11 a.m. at Pat Thomas Stadium in Leesburg.
