Camden County Health Department monitoring bird flu throughout state

(Blackwood, NJ) – The Camden County Health Department is currently monitoring the continued spread of bird flu across the country as well as here in New Jersey. Currently, no birds in Camden County have tested positive for bird flu and the risk to the public remains low. “Right now, the country has seen 70 human cases of bird flu, as well as outbreaks in a variety of animals including wild birds and cows,” Camden County Health Officer Dr. Paschal Nwako said. “So, the good news is that we have not seen human to human transmission of the virus, and we do not need to panic. Wanted: Suspect for Shooting Incident in the 16th District [VIDEO]

The Philadelphia Police Department and the Shooting Investigation Group is asking for the public’s assistance identifying the suspect depicted in the following video. On March 10, 2025, at 7:03 pm, a road rage incident led to a shooting incident at the intersection of 42nd and Girard Ave. Two victims, ages 15 and 20, are currently listed in stable condition. The suspect was captured on multiple cameras in the area. Suspect Description: Black male, bald head, full beard, 40-45 years old. Last seen operating a 2016-17 model Honda Civic, silver, unknown tag, body damage to both front quarter panels, missing passenger side front hub cap, white vanity tag on front bumper. Overdoses continue to decline in Camden County

Last year, Camden County saw a 37% drop in fatal overdoses and that decline has continued into 2025. According to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, as of Feb. 26, there have been 22 overdose deaths compared to 40 at the same time in 2024 and in 2023. This has been the largest decline since 2022, when the number of overdose deaths sat at 58. “The progress that we have made over the past year in Camden County when it comes to overdose and addiction is incredible,” said Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. “We have continually seen overdose deaths plummet, which just goes to show that all our investment into public health and harm reduction resources is paying off. GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP MAN SENTENCED TO 35 YEARS FOR AGGRAVATED SEXUAL ASSAULT

MAYS LANDING, NJ – On Wednesday, March 5, 2024, a 24-year-old Galloway Township man was sentenced to 35 years in New Jersey State Prison. The defendant—whose name is not being publicized here to protect the privacy and interests of the victim—was convicted of first degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault, third-degree showing obscene material to a minor and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child after a jury trial on July 12, 2024. This prison sentence is subject to both the Jessica Lunsford Act and the No Early Release Act. The defendant will not be eligible for parole until he serves approximately 29.75 years in prison. He will also be subject to Parole Supervision for Life and Megan’s Law registration upon his release from prison.
