After his position was outsourced, he continued to work for CCVTS , becoming a custodian for the school until he eventually retired in October 2015.
Even though Jockie worked hard he also enjoyed his leisure time. He loved to visit family and friends and routinely took annual trips to visit his mother and sister in his hometown of North Carolina and attended family reunions whenever possible. He enjoyed going to the casinos, playing the lottery and sharing stories of his life experiences. He frequently spoke of the times he used to drive tractors at the tender age of 6 and how he drove a school bus full of children while he attended high school. His preferred genres of music was country western, blues, oldies, jazz and R&B.
Before his health began to decline, Jockie would regularly attend St John Baptist Church on Sundays, where he was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ into his life.
Jockie leaves to cherish his memories his brother, Hercules Yelverton, his five children (and spouse) Alvin Yelverton, Tammie Medina, Claudette Yelverton and Christina Collier (Paul), and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and friends.
