Camden County Public Works Crews Prepare For Icy Weather

(Lindenwold, NJ) – The region is bracing for another round of winter weather that is set to begin on this evening and the Camden County’s Department of Public Works (DPW) is working to prepare the county’s 1,200 lane miles of road ahead of time.
“The Public Works Department is working ahead of time to prep the roadways as this system that will move in on Saturday night is expected to bring moderate amounts of sleet and ice,” Commissioner Al Dyer, liaison to the DPW. “As always, our crews are prepared with our salt trucks loaded, plows ready to go and tree removal equipment in working order.”
A mix of snow and sleet will begin in the late afternoon with sleet turning into freezing rain around midnight. Temperatures will increase overnight but rain will continue into Sunday. There is the potential for a one-inch coating of ice.
“This storm will be particularly icy so if you do not have to travel on this evening or Sunday morning, we urge you to stay off the roads,” Dyer said. “But if you must drive, please be careful and take your time. And please remember, as our crews head out to treat the roads always leave at least six car lengths behind our vehicles while they work and move any cars off the street and into a driveway.”
At the public works complex in Lindenwold, more than 100 pieces of equipment are available to keep county roadways passable. When the weather becomes treacherous, personnel will be dispatched to 12 winter maintenance districts to salt and plow 1,200 lane miles of roadways across Camden County. The county’s response plan calls for crews to be dispatched only to the zones where they are needed.
In the event the weather causes isolated power outages, please remember to immediately call your utility company so they can identify the location and coordinate crews to restore your power.
