Rowan Men's Basketball Rallies to 74-71 Win at Johns Hopkins

RowanBALTIMORE, MD - Danny Fleming scored 19 points and Rowan rallied from a 14-point deficit to ring in the New Year with a 74-71 win at Johns Hopkins in an afternoon contest today, improving to 7-5 on the year.

Fleming made 4-of-8 three-point attempts and blocked three shots in 29 minutes of action, for his third consecutive double-figure game. Brycen Williams scored 16 points and Khalif Meares and Taz Cantey added 12 points apiece.

Rowan scored seven straight points in the final two minutes to earn the win, as JHU (4-5) had taken a four-point lead. Meares scored four in the 7-0 run and Fleming hit a  free throw at :02 to secure the victory.

The Profs trailed 63-55 and went on an 8-0 run, with five points from Skip Burton, to tie the game, 63-63, with 4:50 remaining. JHU then took a 71-67 lead with 2:15 to play before Rowan went on its decisive run.  

Johns Hopkins built up a multiple double-digit leads in the first half and led, 35-21, with 1:11 remaining, as that score held at halftime. The Blue Jays connected on close to 41 percent from the field while holding the Profs to an 8-for-33 effort from the field.

Both teams heated up in the second half while the Profs started the half going 3-for-5 from three-point range.  Rowan opened the half with a 12-4 run, with six points from Fleming, to close to 39-33 at 16:43. After trailing, 58-44, midway through the half, Rowan chipped away to make its comeback as it finished the half hitting 53.6 percent (15-for-28) from the field.

Rowan gets a break for the weekend before resuming NJAC play on January 8 at TCNJ.
