OLDMANS TOWNSHIP, NJ (December 6, 2024)(CNBNews)--Additional information regarding the tragic deaths of NFL star Johnny Gaudreau, 31, and his brother, Matthew R. Gaudreau, 29, was released today, December 6, 2024, by the Salem County Prosecutor's Office. NJ Advance Media obtained this redacted information through an Open Public Records Act (OPRA) request. Also forthcoming is body camera footage from the New Jersey State Police related to the arrest of Sean M. Higgins, 44, who has been charged with two counts of second-degree vehicular homicide in connection with the deaths of the Gaudreau brothers.

Higgins was also issued citations for driving while intoxicated, consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle, having an open alcohol container in a vehicle, improper passing, reckless driving, and making an unsafe lane change.

 

The brothers were cycling on August 29 on the shoulder of Route 551/Pennsville-Auburn Road in Oldmans Township when Higgins, 44, allegedly struck the two men with his car, killing them instantly, according to the state police.  The accident happened around 8:20 PM. The police docket stated that Higgins allegedly hit them as he passed another vehicle that had moved over to make room for the bicyclists. Both brothers died at the scene, police said.

 

Higgins, who works for a drug rehab business and is a Major in the Army National Guard, allegedly admitted that he was drinking alcohol before the accident. 

 

The two brothers, both alums of Gloucester Catholic, were renowned hockey players at the school and at Boston College before achieving stardom in professional hockey.
