Rowan Men's Basketball Defeats Rutgers-Camden, 81-67

RowanGLASSBORO, NJ –Khalif Meares scored 23 points and Taz Cantey had 21 to lead Rowan to an 81-67 win over Rutgers-Camden, as the Profs improved to 3-2 on the year and 2-0 in the NJAC. Cantey shot 9-for-11 from the field to total 21 points in the same number of minutes while Meares connected on 9-of-11 field goals. Tyrese Myrick added 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Rowan opened the second half with an 11-0 run to take a 51-36 lead and take control of the game. The Profs kept it going and through the first eight minutes, outscored Rutgers-Camden, 21-6, to take a 61-42 advantage.
The Profs held a comfortable margin throughout the rest of the game, leading by as much as 18, 58-40, with 13:25 remaining. Rowan would not let the Scarlet Raptors get any closer than 12 points, 72-60, with over five minutes remaining.
The first half was closer at the start as the visitors held a brief 13-9 lead. With the teams tied, 18-18, Rowan outscored Rutgers-Camden, 14-4, to take its biggest lead of the half, 30-22, at 5:21. The Scarlet Raptors outscored Rowan in the final five minutes by 14-10 to close within 40-36 at halftime.
Neither team connected on much from three-point range, with Rowan making just 3-of-16 long-range shots and Rutgers-Camden (5-3; 0-2) going 3-for-20 from beyond the arc.
The Profs head to NJCU on Saturday afternoon (3 p.m.) for their first meeting of the year with the Gothic Knights and will then visit Kean on December 11 before returning to Esby Gym on December 14 to host William Paterson.
