Erma Resident Arrested for Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Materials

Cape May Court House, New Jersey (CNBNews)- Cape May County Prosecutor, Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Lower Township Police Chief Kevin Screenshot 2023-05-21 at 21.58.08 Lewis announce the arrest of Avery Dowe, a 24-year-old male, from the Erma section of Lower Township, New Jersey for the charges of Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Materials (CSAM). This investigation stemmed from a National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) Cyber-Tip that revealed an unidentified subject, subsequently identified as Avery Dowe, downloaded and shared various images/videos of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).

On December 17, 2024, a court-authorized search warrant was executed at Dowe’s residence, located in the Erma section of Lower Township, New Jersey, which was connected with this investigation. The search warrant was executed by members of the Cape May County Regional SWAT Team, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office/Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, the Lower Township Police Department, and the United States Secret Service (USSS- Atlantic City). At the time of the search, a computer and multiple cellular device(s) were seized from the residence.

After further examination of these device(s), by forensic experts; they were found to contain images and videos of Child Sexual Abuse Materials (CSAM). On December 19, 2024 (as a result of this investigation), Dowe was subsequently arrested and was charged with Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Materials, a crime of the third-degree. Dowe was processed and is currently lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Facility, pending court proceedings.

 

An individual charged with a third-degree crime is subject to a term of imprisonment of three (3) to five (5) years in New Jersey State Prison. Prosecutor Sutherland relayed that this investigation is part of the ongoing effort by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office High-Tech Crimes Unit & Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force and the New Jersey State Police (ICAC) Task Force to identify individuals involved in the exploitation of children and who possess or distribute Child Sexual Abuse Materials. Prosecutor Sutherland continues to urge the citizens of Cape May County to report any information regarding child exploitation or any criminal activity within the community.
