According to Wikipedia, Cape May, often lovingly called Cape May City, is a picturesque community and charming seaside resort on the southern tip of the Cape May Peninsula in Cape May County, New Jersey. This lovely city hugs the Atlantic Ocean and lies near the tranquil mouth of Delaware Bay, making it one of America’s oldest and most cherished vacation destinations. It is steeped in history and natural beauty.

As part of the Ocean City metropolitan statistical area, Cape May is a gem within the expansive Philadelphia-Wilmington-Camden combined statistical area, which is commonly referred to as the Delaware Valley or Philadelphia metropolitan area. Notably, Cape May is the southernmost municipality in New Jersey, enhancing its appeal as a serene retreat.

According to the 2020 United States census, Cape May had a resident population of 2,768, reflecting a decrease of 839 residents—or 23.3%—since the 2010 census, and a total decline of 427 residents—or 10.6%—from the 4,034 counted in 2000. However, during the vibrant summer season, the city’s population swells dramatically, attracting 40,000 to 50,000 visitors who come to enjoy its stunning beaches, rich history, and lively atmosphere.

The entire city is designated as the Cape May Historic District, recognized as a National Historic Landmark that showcases an impressive collection of beautifully preserved Victorian architecture, inviting visitors to stroll through streets that feel like stepping back in time. In 2008, the Travel Channel honored Cape May as one of the top 10 beaches in the United States, further solidifying its reputation as a premier getaway in the South Jersey region, where history, culture, and natural beauty beautifully intertwine.
