Commissioner Kane, Congressman Norcross to present medals, awards to WWII veteran

Today, Commissioner Melinda Kane will join Congressman Donald Norcross to present Gilbert Klein, a 99–year–old WWII veteran, with five medals and two awards to honor his service.

Klein, a resident of Haddon Township, served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946 and was involved in major military operations including Operation Juneau and the American occupation of Okinawa, Japan.

During this event, Klein will receive a Combat Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, World War II Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, the Honorable Discharge Button, and Honorable Service Lapel Pin. 

“Gilbert is a remarkable person who served his country during one of the most turbulent times in our nation’s history,” said Commissioner Kane, liaison to the Department of Veterans Affairs. “It is such an honor to celebrate him and all of his accomplishments.”
