Millions of people travel during the holidays to visit family, and many bring their family pets to share in the festivities. Here are some helpful tips to make the trip safe and enjoyable.

  1. Ensure your pet’s collar has ID tags listing your current address and phone number.
  2. Check that your pet’s microchip is registered and has updated information.
  3. Secure your cat in a ventilated crate or carrier.
  4. Use a vehicle harness or a carrier, depending on the size of your dog.
  5. Don’t allow your pet to sit in the front seat.
  6. Never leave your pet unattended in a vehicle.
  7. Allow extra time to take regular breaks so your pet can hydrate and stretch their legs.
  8. Pack medications, leashes, harnesses, toys, and food/water dishes.
  9. Bring proof of vaccinations and a health certificate signed by your veterinarian if your trip crosses state lines.
