GLASSBORO, NJ – Kristina Johnson scored 14 points as one of four Rowan players in double figures as the Profs rolled to a 75-45 in the NJAC women's basketball opener for both teams.
Johnson shot 5-of-9 from the field, with four three-pointers, and handed out a team-high four assists. Sabrina Araujo netted 13 points and Kate Herlihy and Charlotte Carlies scored 11 apiece for the Profs, while Shayla Johnson led the squad with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Rowan (2-2; 1-0 NJAC) built up a 21-9 lead in the first six minutes of the game and never looked back. Johnson led the way with four three-pointers in the quarter, including three consecutive, while Herlihy scored four as the Profs ran off 11 straight points. Rowan shot 53 percent from the field and made 5-of-6 threes en route to a 27-18 lead at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Montclair State (4-1; 0-1) cut its deficit to seven, 31-24, but Rowan closed out the period with a 16-2 run, ending in a three by Reagan Russo, to own a commanding 47-26 halftime lead.
Rowan led by as much as 28 points, 54-26, early in the third quarter and in a low-scoring fourth quarter, the Profs took their biggest lead of the game, 74-38, after a basket from Victoria Crooker.
Rowan takes a break for the holiday and returns to action on Wednesday, December 4 when it hosts Rutgers-Camden in the second game of an NJAC doubleheader, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
