PHILADELPHIA POLICE OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

Please note that the following information is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation continues.  

PHILADELPHIA – On Tuesday evening, October 29, 2024, Philadelphia police officers were involved in a shooting incident in the Kensington neighborhood.

Officers were on patrol when they spotted a man who matched the description of a suspect wanted in connection with the murder of 23-year-old Felicity Vanatta on October 8, 2024. As the officers approached the suspect on the 3100 block of Reach Street, a foot chase began.

During the chase, an officer saw the suspect with a gun and shouted a warning. Officer Josue Reyes used a Taser on the suspect, and then a single gunshot was fired. Following this, Officer Josue Reyes and Officer Michael Trask, fired their guns, striking the suspect, 29-year-old Spencer Majett, twice in the upper back. Majett was taken to Temple Hospital in critical but stable condition.

No officers were injured in the incident. Body camera footage captured the incident. A loaded .40 caliber handgun was recovered at the scene.

Spencer Majett has been charged with Murder and related charges for the homicide of Felicity Vanetta. 

Majett is also facing two counts of Attempted Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer, two counts of Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, two counts of Aggravated Assault, and related charges.

Officer Reyes and Officer Trask, both one-year veterans of the Philadelphia Police Department and both assigned to the 25th Police District, have been placed on administrative duty pending investigations by Internal Affairs, the Officer-Involved Shooting Investigations Unit, and the District Attorney's Office.

****Double Shooting/Homicide****

On November 7 at approximately 11:07 a.m. in the 24th District, a double shooting/homicide occurred at 100 E Somerset Street on the highway. The first victim, a 51-year-old Hispanic male, sustained one gunshot wound to the chest and another to the right leg. He was transported by police to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:27 a.m. The second victim, a 34-year-old Hispanic male, was shot once in the left shoulder and transported by Medic 31 to Temple University Hospital, where he is in stable condition. The scene is currently being held, and no arrests have been made. No weapons have been recovered.
