CAMDEN – 'Tis the season for giving back and the Camden community does it in a big way with turkeys, vegetables and other food for the holiday a week from Thursday.

About 160 bags of food were distributed on Tuesday to residents of Ablett Village in an event organized by the nonprofit Camden Community Partnership.

The donations were made possible by the CCP and the Office of the Mayor, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, The Michaels Organization, Better Tomorrows, the Housing Authority of the City of Camden and the Camden County Police Department.

Several other giveaways are scheduled in the city, including ones sponsored by Camden Prep High School, the City of Camden and the Salvation Army Camden Kroc Center, which expects to give away 1,200 meals of turkey and fixings.

The city's event is this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  at Roosevelt Plaza Park, 520 Market Street in front of City Hall. In case of rain, the event will move to the North Camden Community Center, 1000 North Sixth Street. Free winter apparel will also be distributed. Everything is free, but residents need to present photo identification showing they live in the city.
