Yards Brewing Company Celebrates 30th Anniversary with Throwback Party
Philadelphia - PA - Yards Brewing Company is celebrating a major milestone this month—30 years of brewing in the City of Brotherly Love. To mark the occasion, Yards is turning back the clock to 1994, the year it all began. On Friday, November 1st, the Yards Taproom on Spring Garden Street will host an evening of 90s nostalgia, great beer, and a gathering of fellow beer lovers and key figures from Yards' history. The event, which is no charge and open to the public, will run from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
Since its humble beginnings as a garage-sized operation, Yards Brewing Company has grown to become Philadelphia's go-to source for craft beer. Founded by college friends Tom Kehoe and Jon Bovit, who began homebrewing in the late 80s, Yards has grown alongside the city, embracing the philosophy that things aren’t just made in Philadelphia—they’re made by Philadelphia. This approach has driven Yards' success and deep connection to the community. Now, three decades later, Yards is a cornerstone of the city’s brewing scene, with their beer available in nearly every pub, stadium, and bottle shop across the city. “Our beers have always been crafted by the people of this city, for the people of this city. There’s no place we’d rather call home,” said Tom Kehoe, founder of Yards Brewing Company.
In celebration of this milestone anniversary, Yards will host a special throwback party, offering 1994 pricing on some of their iconic brews, including Philadelphia Pale Ale, Brawler, and ESA. Guests can enjoy these classics for just $3.75 per 20oz pour throughout the night.
The event will also feature appearances by two of Philadelphia’s most influential figures in the craft beer scene: Fergus "Fergie" Carey of Fergie’s Pub and Tom Peters of Monk’s Cafe. Together, they will tap a firkin of Extra Special Ale (ESA), the first beer ever brewed by Yards. This English-style Bitter played a key role in driving the demand for traditional cask-conditioned beer in the U.S., and guests will have the chance for comp samples during the event. A limited supply of ESA will also be available in can six-packs for $12.99, exclusively in the taproom while supplies last.
To top off the evening, Yards founder Tom Kehoe will be honored with a special ceremony recognizing his contributions to Philadelphia’s brewing history. The taproom will be playing 90s hits throughout the night, creating a nostalgic atmosphere for the celebration. Guests are encouraged to wear vintage Yards gear, with prizes and giveaways available to those who do.
Don’t miss out on this celebration at the Yards Taproom, located at 500 Spring Garden Street, Philadelphia, PA 19123, on Friday, November 1st from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
