GLASSBORO, NJ - The annual Rowan-Montclair State football game will take on a new twist this year with the matchup being named the “Breakfast Bowl”, as both schools aim to bring attention to the fight against food insecurity in the state. The winner of the inaugural game on November 2nd at Rowan will receive a perpetual “Breakfast Bowl” trophy and determine whether the popular breakfast food is to be called “Pork Roll” or “Taylor Ham” for the calendar year until the next game.

Kickoff is at 2 p.m. on November 2nd at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium while the game is part of Rowan University’s annual Homecoming.

The aim of the game is to not only create excitement to highlight the competitive spirit of both schools, but to bring attention to the fight against food insecurity in the state.  Donation points will be set up in Coach Richard Wackar Stadium with QR codes for easy contributions to support the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. Fans who choose a donation for “Pork Roll” will support the Egg Harbor, NJ, location and those who choose “Taylor Ham” will support the location in Hillside, NJ.

“Breakfast Bowl” t-shirts will also be on sale at the game with the proceeds going to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.

Additionally, Resolution Bill AR152 was introduced in the New Jersey Legislature through Assemblyman Mike Venezia expressing support for the Breakfast Bowl and its goal of fighting food insecurity in the state. Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, along with Assemblywoman Carmen Morales, joined as cosponsors of the resolution in support.

First-year Rowan head coach Pat Ruley said, “’The Breakfast Bowl’ elevates a long-standing competitive rivalry among two storied NJAC programs. It's really cool to be involved in the first annual trophy game the NJAC will have. Obviously, the naming rights of a breakfast meat is a fun incentive to come out on top in this game, but to be involved with a game that has a charitable element to it, as we aim to address food insecurity in our state, is a good feeling."

Rowan enters the game with a 3-4 overall record and 1-2 mark in the NJAC, with Montclair State also 3-4 this season, and 1-3 in the conference.
