Ralph Robert Richards, 74, of Gloucester City, NJ, passed away unexpectedly on October 7, 2024. Born on October 31, 1949, in Camden, NJ, he was the son of the late Raymond R. and Henrietta (Dunn) Richards. Ralph served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1970 to 1978. He later became a police officer and was the oldest to graduate from the academy at 40. He served with distinction for two decades at the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA), before retiring in 2007. He was an original member of the DRPA High Angle and Marine Rescue Teams. Ralph earned a multitude of accolades, including the Camden County Prosecutor’s Award on several occasions for bravery and valor.
A leukemia survivor of six years, Ralph exhibited incredible strength and resilience throughout his life. He is survived by his devoted children, Heather K. Richards (Bea) and Todd M. Richards (Abby); cherished grandchildren, Alex and Emily Jane, and brother of Mary Jane Goheen (Jay). He is also survived by his nephews, Bob Richards, Raymond Richards, and Ryan Richards. Ralph was also predeceased by his brother, Robert “Reds” Richards, and his wife, Mary.
Ralph was a graduate of St. Mary’s Grammar School and Gloucester Catholic High School, class of 1968. He loved to dance, and his proudest achievement was being a devoted and deeply loved father and grandfather. Ralph’s joy came from sharing his time and love with his surviving family.
Family and friends are invited to his prayers of committal in the Chapel of New St. Mary’s Cemetery and Mausoleum, 515 West Browning Road, Bellmawr, NJ, at 11:30 AM on Saturday, October 12, 2024
