Michael Disporto Sentenced To Life Imprisonment for Killing Baby in Gloucester City

Camden City N.J. (October 10, 2024)– A Manahawkin man was sentenced today to life in prison with no possibility of parole for the 2016 homicide and sexual assault of a 23-month-old child, announced Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. Michael Disporto, 30, was found guilty on October 13, 2023, of first-degree Murder and Aggravated Sexual Assault in connection with the death of child A.S. The verdict was returned after a jury trial in Camden County Superior Court. On October 10, 2024, the court sentenced Disporto to life in prison without parole. He also received a consecutive term of 40 years subject to the No Early Release Act on the charge of Aggravated Sexual Assault.

On Sunday, July 3, 2016, the Gloucester City Police Department responded to a report of an unresponsive child. Twenty-three-month-old A.S. was transported to Cooper University Hospital where she was found to have suffered extensive injuries as well as signs of being sexually abused. A.S. was pronounced deceased on July 5, 2016. Her death was ruled a Homicide, and the cause of death was blunt force trauma.

The State was represented at trial by Assistant Prosecutor/Homicide Unit Section Chief Peter Gallagher of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office. Sgt investigated the case. James Brining, along with Lt. William Rumell and Sgt. Victoria Patti of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, Detective Joseph Hopkins of the Gloucester City Police Department and Detective Daniel Choe of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
