Governor signs Carter, Miller and Peterpaul bill that will help ease burden of securing a college education.
(TRENTON) — Assembly members Linda S. Carter, Cody D. Miller and Luanne M. Peterpaul, all of whom sponsored bill A4811, issued the statements below in response to Governor Phil Murphy’s signing earlier today of legislation that will appropriate $20 million for Summer Tuition Aid Grants (TAG) in the Summer of 2025.
“Summer TAG has been instrumental in helping thousands of New Jersey students take classes to achieve their educational goals and advance their careers - without increasing their financial burdens,” said Assemblywoman Carter (D-Somerset, Union). “By funding Summer TAG, we are ensuring that many more students can get the education they need to pursue their dreams.”
“Students attend summer school for a myriad of reasons, whether it's to catch up on courses or gain more valuable experience before graduating; regardless of the motivation, Summer TAG plays a vital role in helping them graduate with minimal debt,” said Assemblyman Miller (D-Atlantic, Camden, Gloucester). “The ongoing investment in this program is also an investment in New Jersey's future, ensuring that our residents have affordable access to higher education.”
“By supporting college students in funding their summer classes, we are not only fostering their academic growth but also empowering them to graduate with less debt, paving the way for a more secure financial future,” said Assemblywoman Peterpaul (D-Monmouth). “Summer TAG has had a positive impact on many students' lives, and it is essential that we continue to support them in making the most of their educational opportunities.”
