Cumberland County PO Detective Monica Mosley Shot and Killed During Home Invasion

 

BRIDGETON NJ (October 16, 2024)--Detectives from several southern New Jersey law enforcement agencies are continuing the investigation this morning into a home invasion in Bridgeton Tuesday night at the residence of a county detective who was killed during the incident.

Screenshot 2023-05-21 at 21.58.08Local police were called to the 600 block of Buckshutem Rd. at approximately 10:30 PM on the report of several subjects kicking in a front door at a residence. Upon their arrival, they found the victim, identified as Monica Mosley, 51, a sergeant with Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office, had been shot. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene, according to Bridgeton Chief of Police Michael Gaimari. Subsequent investigation at the scene led officers to Inspira Hospital in Bridgeton and eventually New Jersey State Police troopers to Cooper University Hospital in Camden where one subject was ultimately detained for questioning having been treated for a gunshot wound. Police have not identified the suspect or released any further information. No arrests have been made and no charges filed as of this morning, according to authorities.

The investigation is being jointly conducted by the State Police Major Crime Bureau, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the Bridgeton Police Dept. Criminal Investigation Bureau. Gaimari said he has known Sgt. Mosley for nearly her whole career and expressed condolences to her immediate and extended family members and to the staff at the prosecutor’s office which is located in the city. “All of law enforcement feels the loss deeply, but our hearts go out to her family and friends including those that worked with her daily,” the chief said, “it’s truly devastating!”
