How to make a difference during Alzheimer's Disease Awareness and Family Caregivers Month

November is National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month and Family Caregivers Month. To mark these moments, we’re encouraging people to lend a helping hand to the more than 700,000 family members and friends in Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania who serve as unpaid Alzheimer’s caregivers. If you are caring for a loved one with dementia, you can turn to the resources and support services offered by the Alzheimer’s Association. Whether you are a caregiver or you know someone who is, one of the easiest ways to make a difference is through education. Learn about Alzheimer’s disease—its symptoms, its progression and the common challenges caregivers face. The more you know, the easier it will be to find and offer help. A partial list of education offerings for November is below. Other ways to make a difference: Check in with a phone call, send a note or stop by for a visit. These... Read more →

NAKED STATUE OF TRUMP ON DISPLAY IN PHILADELPHIA!!! William E. Cleary Sr. | CNBNews On Wednesday, October 30, a 43-foot tall nude marionette of former President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, arrived in Philadelphia and was erected in the 3700-unit block of Kensington Avenue. A large crane holds it, and two guards stand nearby to keep the public at bay. President Trump’s private area, which shows a crooked penis, is on full display. The word salad in the press release sent to CNBNews states, "This thought-provoking installation continues to spark conversations about leadership, power, and the dynamics of modern politics.” They didn't explain how a nude statue would help to accomplish those goals. By merging bold visuals with political commentary, the tour encourages critical thinking and engagement... Read more →

CNBNews Maryland Fishing: Herb Floyd Catches a Red Drum

Maryland Fishing Report – October 30 October 30, 2024 Herb Floyd enjoyed some light tackle fishing in the Chesapeake Bay recently, catching this red drum. Photo by Rhonda Floyd A change of seasons is all around us this week, vibrant colors abound, the mornings have a little more chill in them, and anglers are enjoying fishing across Maryland. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources announced results of this year’s juvenile striped bass survey, which tracks the reproductive success of Maryland’s state fish in the Chesapeake Bay. The 2024 young-of-year index is 2.0, well below the long-term average of 11.0, and marks the sixth consecutive year of poor reproduction. Efforts to rebuild the Atlantic Coast population of striped bass have been ongoing for several years. Although recent population estimates indicate improvement, low levels of reproduction will influence future conservation measures under consideration by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission. THE RACE FOR THE WH: Trump Files Lawsuit Over Voter Suppression in PA

By Christen Smith | The Center Square Oct 30, 2024 (The Center Square) – Former President Donald Trump’s campaign said it’s suing county officials in southeastern Pennsylvania for alleged voter suppression. The legal challenge stems from reports out of Bucks County that election workers were disbanding lines of voters waiting for on-demand mail-in ballots Tuesday afternoon, the last day to request to do so. In an email, the campaign shared videos and posts on X that claimed workers were telling voters standing in long lines to come back later in the day. Others claimed police officers were blocking an entrance to the election office. Voters in Pennsylvania had until 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday to request a mail-in ballot at their county election offices. Many were filling out the forms right on the spot and turning them in, slowing the process down. In a Facebook post late Tuesday, Bucks County officials... Read more →

West Point, NY, Perfect Starting Point for Hudson Valley Fun

By Nicole Pensiero It was time for a little leaf-peeping, so we looked north to the mid-Hudson Valley for an autumn adventure. It’d been years since I’d visited the United States Military Academy at West Point – and my traveling companion had never been – so it seemed an ideal starting point. Along with its impressive campus, West Point is filled with incredible history, so history buffs will be especially keen on this destination. During the Revolutionary War, the fortress was an important stronghold in George Washington’s defense against the British. Perhaps most notably, it served as the western point from which a massive, 75-ton chain stretched to prevent English troops from sailing further along the Hudson. (You can see parts of the actual chain if you take an official tour of West Point, something we considered a high point of our visit). Since opening its doors as the site... Read more →

Deceitful Gloucester County Democrats

Imagine what County Democrats would get away with without Republicans on the Board watching them MULLICA HILL – Running for re-election, Gloucester County Commissioners Nick DeSilvio and Chris Konawel today challenged Gloucester County Democrats to stop cherry-picking quotes in an effort to deceive Gloucester County voters. “Regardless of how one feels about abortion, it’s an issue that County Commissioners have zero control over. It’s shameful that county Democrats are using it in a commissioner campaign.” Gloucester County Commissioner Nick DeSilvio said, “It’s absolutely deceitful that County Democrats would choose to ignore the fact that in the same article they cite in a mailer it was written, ‘DeSilvio said in a phone interview that he does believe abortion is at times medically necessary, and that he thinks it should be legal in cases of rape or incest.’” DeSilvio added, “I believe voters in this county are tired of the Democrats and... Think You’ve Outgrown Your High School Years?

Newswise — Adults aged 35 to 60 are drinking at unprecedented rates, with those who binge drank in high school reporting more past 30-day high-risk drinking in midlife. And this link may be especially strong for women, according to a study just published in Alcohol: Clinical and Experimental Research Health. These trends are particularly concerning as health conditions, and biological processes common with aging put adults in midlife at greater health risk from alcohol use. Twenty to 30 percent of all the 35- to 60-year-olds in the study reported binge drinking (four or more drinks for women, five for men), and one out of ten reported high-intensity drinking—having eight to ten drinks in one sitting. Compared to people who did not binge drink in high school, people in the study who binge drank at age 18 had higher rates of alcohol use on a range of alcohol use measures—typical number... WHAT ARE THEY HIDING FROM YOU?
Has Crime Increased in Gloucester City?

The Gloucester City Mayor and Council are set to meet this Monday night, where they are anticipated to approve an important ordinance during its second reading aimed at expanding the police department. This proposed ordinance introduces two new roles: civilian police aides and non-sworn agents. Police Chief Brian Morrell, who also holds the position of temporary City Administrator, has advocated for these new roles. Currently, the police department operates with a dedicated team of 39 staff members. However, the ordinance does not specify the number of civilian aides and non-sworn agents that will be brought on board. Furthermore, it remains unclear what the compensation for these positions will be, leaving lingering questions about salary and remuneration unaddressed. Chief Morrell, who earns a salary of $184,000, is one of the highest-paid police chiefs in New Jersey for cities with a population of around 11,000. In addition, he receives $45,000 for his...
