OLDMANS CREEK NJ(September 4, 2024)(CNBNews)--On Thursday, August 29th, Johnny and Mathew Gaudreau were tragically struck and killed by a man driving a Jeep vehicle while cycling in Oldmans Creek, Salem County. The two brothers, both alums of Gloucester Catholic, were renowned hockey players at the school and at Boston College before achieving stardom in professional hockey.

On Friday, August 30, CNN reported that the Philadelphia Phillies held a moment of silence at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia to honor the Gaudreau brothers before their game against the Atlanta Braves. Fans of Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew, Ohio State’s football team, and several other baseball teams also showed their respect for the two men.

Gloucester Catholic is holding a Silent Night of Remembrance on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the GCHS gymnasium to honor John and Matthew Gaudreau.

The event is open to the Gloucester Catholic Family and all residents of the Tri-State area to provide an opportunity for all to pay tribute to John and Matt. Light refreshments will be available in the cafeteria.

Please enter the GCHS facility only through the main high school entrance on Cumberland Street.

Parking will be limited but available at Freedom Pier, located at the corner of King and Cumberland Streets, as well as outside the former Mary Costello Elementary School at Joy and Cumberland Streets.
