In the 25th District, there was a homicide by shooting on the 200 block of West Somerset Street on the highway at 3:50 AM. The victim, an unidentified Hispanic male in his early 30s, was shot once in the stomach, once in the right leg, and once in the left arm. He was transported by police to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:18 AM. The scene is currently being held, and no arrests have been made or weapons recovered at this time.

Shooting Incident on Walker Street
On August 1, 2024, at approximately 2:10 AM, officers from the 15th District responded to a report of a person with a gun and three shots fired at 7400 Walker Street.
Shortly thereafter, a white van arrived at Frankford Aria Hospital with a male gunshot victim, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest. The van departed after dropping off the victim. The 16-year- old victim was then transported by medics to Frankford Torresdale Hospital, where he is currently in critical condition.
At this time, there is no known motive, and no arrests have been made.

Auto vs. Auto vs. Pedestrian Crash on Bustleton Avenue
On Thursday, August 1, 2024, at approximately 12:45 AM, a multi-vehicle and pedestrian crash occurred in the 2nd District on the 6800 block of Bustleton Avenue, resulting in injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of a 2014 Jeep Cherokee (Unit #1) experienced a medical emergency while traveling westbound on Harbison Avenue, causing him to lose consciousness. Unit #1 then entered the parking lot of the 7-11 store at 6800 Bustleton Avenue, where it struck a parked tractor-trailer truck (Unit #2) making a delivery to the store. Unit #1 continued through the parking lot and struck a 34-year-old male pedestrian (Unit #3) who was standing in front of the 7-11. The vehicle ultimately came to rest inside the 7-11 store, causing damage to the storefront.
Medic 38 responded to the scene and transported the pedestrian to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in stable condition.
License & Inspections (L&I) inspector was on-site. The investigation is ongoing with the Crash Investigation Division.
RELEASED WEDNESDAY, JULY 31
AUTO V PEDESTRIAN
On Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at approximately 7:04 PM, an auto vs. pedestrian crash occurred in the 24th District at Frankford and Allegheny resulting in a fatality. The preliminary investigation revealed that Unit #1 a black 2012 Toyota Corolla was traveling eastbound on 2000 Allegheny and struck Unit 2 (Pedestrian), standing on the sidewalk on the southeast corner. Medic 45 arrived on the scene and pronounced the male at 7:15 PM. The victim was later identified as 38-year-old Christopher Cabrera from 29XX Kensington Avenue.
After further investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for 41-year-old Christopher Sorensen of Bensalem, PA for his involvement in the death of Christopher Cabrera. Sorensen was arrested this afternoon Wednesday, July 31, 2024, on the 600 block of East Indiana Avenue. Sorensen faces charges of Homicide by Vehicle, Accident- Death- No License Reckless Driving other related offenses.
PERSON IN THE RIVER
At approximately 7:50 PM, the 18th District received reports of a person in the river near the South Street Bridge at 2849 South St. Witnesses reported seeing a Black female of unknown age jump from the bridge.
Emergency response units, including the Marine Unit, Tactical Air, and Southwest Detectives Division, were dispatched to the scene.
The scene was cleared at 9:33 PM. As of this time, no body has been recovered. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
JEWELRY STORE ROBBERY
On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at approximately 3 PM, officers from the 9th District responded to a robbery report at 9xx Arch Street. Upon arrival, officers met with the complainant who described the incident as follows:
An unidentified male entered the Jewelry store, approached the rear glass case containing 24-carat jewelry, produced a black firearm, and demanded, that they not call the police. The suspect then pulled out an object, believed to be a hammer, from a bag, smashed the glass case, and took four trays of jewelry. The suspect fled the scene on foot, heading westbound on Arch Street towards 10th Street.
The investigation is active and ongoing, led by the Central Detective Division.

ASSAULT ON HOSPITAL STAFF
On July 31, 2024, at approximately 4:18 PM, officers from the 26th District responded to a report of a person with a weapon at Episcopal Hospital, located at 100 E Lehigh Ave. The call indicated that a person was stabbing staff with a syringe in the ER.
Upon arrival, officers found the offender already restrained by hospital staff. Security personnel informed the police that the offender had arrived with EMTs, displaying violent and agitated behavior. During a struggle with nursing staff, as they attempted to administer medication via a syringe, the offender knocked the syringe away, causing it to poke a security guard in the arm.
A recovery specialist attempted to intervene, but the offender stabbed him twice in the left forearm with the used needle. The offender then attempted to stab the him again in the face, causing the recovery specialist, to jump back and accidentally hit a nurse in the head with his elbow. The nurse was injured and did not recall the assault due to her injury.
The offender was arrested, and will be charged with several counts of assault. The investigation is ongoing with East Detectives.
