Mantua Road to be closed for railroad crossing repairs beginning Monday

 in East Greenwich, Gloucester County

Detours necessary during construction

(Trenton) – Mantua Road is scheduled to be closed and detoured beginning Monday between Kings Highway/CR 551 and Route 45 for railroad crossing repairs in East Greenwich, Gloucester County.

Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, August 12, until 7 a.m. Monday, August 19, Mantua Road will be closed in both directions between Thompson Avenue and Bell Avenue to remove and reconstruct the existing railroad crossing and approaches. Access will be maintained for local traffic. The following detours will be in place:

Mantua Road eastbound detour:

  • Traffic on Mantua Road eastbound will be directed take Kings Highway/CR 551 northbound
  • Turn right onto Parkville Station Road
  • Turn right onto Mantua Pike/Route 45 southbound, back to Harrison Avenue/Mantua Road

Mantua Road/Harrison Avenue westbound detour:

  • Traffic on Harrison Avenue westbound, which becomes Mantua Road westbound, will be directed take Mantua Pike/Route 45 northbound
  • Turn left onto Parkville Station Road
  • Turn left onto Kings Highway/CR 551 southbound, back to Mantua Road

In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossing, the existing crossing will be replaced with new concrete crossings and asphalt approaches. This federally funded project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 50 crossings each year, statewide.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on X (Twitter) @NewJerseyDOT and on the NJDOT Facebook page.
