GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ(August 18, 2024)(CNBNews)--On August 17, 2024, a high-speed car chase originating in Deptford came to a tumultuous end in Gloucester City as the driver of a stolen vehicle crashed into another vehicle in the 500 block of Morris Street. The stolen vehicle careened into the front of a home before grinding to a halt. Astonishingly, the car that was struck was occupied by a 24-year-old driver and two young children, aged 7 and 8, requiring immediate medical attention at a nearby hospital.
A previous report mentioned that two children inside the vehicle were ejected when the suspect's car struck it, but this information could not be confirmed. According to WPVI Channel 6ABC News in Philadelphia, Deptford Police chased the stolen vehicle into Gloucester City around 6 PM. At that point, Gloucester City Police joined the chase.
The suspect, Joshua Chrismon, 32, from Mount Laurel, fled the crash scene on foot. On the corner of Essex and Filmore Street, witnesses spotted Chrismon hiding behind trash cans in the backyard of one of the homes. They alerted the police, saying, "He's hiding over there!" When Chrismon saw the police, he jumped the fence and ran towards Broadway. According to one of the neighbors, it was amusing to watch him run because his baggy pants kept falling down. The neighbor mentioned, "He had to stop a couple of times to pull his pants up, or he would have tripped and fallen."
WPVI Channel 6ABC News reported that Chrismon has been charged with reckless endangerment, assault by automotive, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, and other related offenses.
