We Respect Your Right To Speak Out!
Sunday, July 21, 2024
Mr. Stivala,
Thank you for reaching out to me. I appreciate your letter. However, I am puzzled by your claim that your statement would not be published. Please understand that we do not publish statements that are libelous or slanderous. We reserve the right to edit remarks as we deem necessary.
I kindly request you to resubmit the remarks you previously sent that were not published. I will review them promptly.
I firmly believe in upholding everyone's right to express their opinions. I have always been inspired by the words of the French writer Voltaire, who famously said (paraphrased): "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

JUSTICE MUST BE FOR ALL, NOT JUST SOME
As you may be aware, I have recently been charged with stealing a damaged child’s bench that was discarded behind Cold Springs School in Gloucester City. I have also been charged with trespassing on school grounds. These charges were fabricated as retaliation against my investigative reporting. It is evident that certain individuals in Gloucester City sought to silence me and suppress public criticism of the mayor and city council.
The attempt to silence me not only violates my rights but also infringes on your right to free speech. I strongly believe in freedom of speech for all individuals, including you and me. It's important to remember that the press represents the public. The suppression of my voice was an attempt to stifle yours, and this type of intimidation is typically associated with authoritarian regimes, not a city like Gloucester City.
Sincerely,
William E. Cleary Sr.
