NJCCIC Issues Warning About Cyber Interference in 2024 Election

Some CrowdStrike Customers have Experienced Blue Screen of Death Issues

Potential for Social Engineering Campaigns Following CrowdStrike Update Issue

Post Date:07/19/2024

Some CrowdStrike customers have experienced blue screen of death (BSOD) issues on Windows systems overnight due to a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts. The issue affects customers worldwide and has cascading impacts across sectors and services. The CrowdStrike Tech Alertprovides additional information, including workaround steps.

Due to the global nature of this issue, the NJCCIC anticipates cyber threat actors may attempt to capitalize on this event and use it as a basis for social engineering campaigns. These cyber threat actors may register new domains referencing CrowdStrike and send phishing emails or text messages to users, luring them to click links, open attachments, or provide sensitive information or access.

The NJCCIC reminds users to be vigilant and scrutinize any communications received from unknown senders and even messages claiming to come from known individuals or organizations. We request any user who receives suspicious or malicious communications report these to the NJCCIC via our website.
