CHEER - After 43 years of dedicated service, Jean, a long-time employee of the Audubon Acme, has retired. "Jean, you have touched the lives of many South Jersey residents in so many ways over those four-plus decades. You comforted many customers when a family member was sick or died. And you always had a kind word for anyone who celebrated a special occasion. All of us will miss your warm smile and your cheerful conversations. Speaking on behalf of those individuals, thank you for being you. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement. Hugs from The Clearys, Tusseys, Woods families, and your Many Friends"
CHEER--Mike Shannon (Bellmawr, NJ/Triton Regional) of Rowan is one of 10 student-athletes to be named to the 2024 Philly-SIDA Academic All-Area Baseball Team, as recognized by the area's Sports Information Directors. The team is selected by votes from 30 four-year institutions within the Philadelphia metropolitan area. ~A friend
KUDOS TO TEDDY --Looking at the instructions for assembling a bookcase recently, there were ten different languages printed on the instructions pamphlet. And now, we are seeing television commercials in Spanish. Republican President Teddy Roosevelt said many years ago, "America is a nation—not a polyglot boarding house. . . . There can be but one loyalty—to the Stars and Stripes; one nationality—the American—and therefore only one language—the English language." The law of the land requires immigrants to learn the English language before they can become United States citizens. If you want to be American, obey the rules or go back to where you came from. ~signed BIG JIM
CHEER--We should all be very proud of the GHS Girls Softball Team and the GCHS Baseball team, who both won the state championship. Congratulations go to GHS, Megan Light Mason, Coach of the Year! “The Harder you Work, the luckier you Get”. ~Bob Bevan
CHEER--You too can make a difference, Margaret Mead a featured writer and
speaker in the mass media throughout the 1960s and 1970s said it best, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed individuals can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." ~CNBNews
CHEER—Attention all pet owners: We hope you and your furry friend enjoy the summer sunshine. Dogs and cats can get sunburned, so be careful.
Please remember to stay safe and take extra care of your pets. Keep your pet on a leash and clean up after them. It seems that some people with small dogs don't think it's necessary to pick up after their animal. As a fellow pet owner, I want to remind you that by not doing so, you're giving all dog owners a bad name. Signed Lacey and Erica
JEER--Countries across the globe celebrated World Press Freedom Day on May 3. In 1993, the United Nations unequivocally declared this day to underscore the crucial role of journalism in free societies. The Guardian reported that a few months into 2024, the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker documented four arrests or detentions of journalists covering protests in New York, Tennessee, and California. These arrests violate journalists’ rights and undermine the public's right to learn about newsworthy events happening in their communities.
The Guardian's findings pertaining to the attacks on the press are noteworthy. In October of last year, officials in Gloucester City, NJ, falsely accused CNBNews editor William E. Cleary Sr. and his son of theft and trespassing.
The Clearys were dragged through the city's kangaroo court system for six months. With no end in sight and faced with rising legal costs and court fines, they plead guilty to breaking the city's noise ordinance, a misdemeanor.
Cleary Sr. has been reporting the news for this City and surrounding communities for over 57 years.
JEER--THE NOVEMBER 5 ELECTION is just 16 weeks away. As we have said numerous times, it's unacceptable that Mayor Baile and his "SIX YES PUPPETS" still haven't appointed a permanent administrator for the City of Gloucester City. It is the most important job in local government. Nearly four years have passed since Police Chief Brian Morrell was named the temporary city administrator. In the meantime, the Acting Administrator, who is also the City's part-time Police Chief, is being paid the enormous sum of $230,000. Why has Baile allowed the most crucial job in our local government to be left unfilled? What is being hidden from the public this time?
Millions of dollars in lawsuits filed against the taxpayers of Gloucester City are working through the court system. Brace yourself for increased taxes to cover these lawsuits in the upcoming months. Remember, you have a choice in the upcoming November election. ~signed VOTE REPUBLICAN
JEER--According to reports, the number of illegal border crossers during the four years that Joe Biden has been president surpasses the population of 44 states and 155 countries. As such the United States of America, as we remember it, no longer exists. There is a call to hold Joe Biden, his administration, and the Democrats accountable for not addressing this issue and taking appropriate action for their negligence. ~Frank G.
JEER-State lawmakers last month voted to weaken New Jersey’s two-decades-old public records law, passing a fast-tracked bill requested by local government lobbyists and derided by civil rights groups, open government advocates, and one of the state’s most respected former lawmakers. The measure (S2930) passed both the Senate and the Assembly as opponents booed and hissed from the gallery of the Statehouse in Trenton. ~CNBNews Editor
CHEER-On June 18, 2024, a longtime New Jersey Democratic Political Boss was indicted on racketeering and conspiracy charges. According to Attorney General Platkin, the Democratic leader, George Norcross III, widely regarded as New Jersey’s most powerful unelected person, conspired with his allies to use their control of Camden County government officials to direct redevelopment projects to their preferred investors and punish those who didn't comply. How long has this been happening? How many local officials were aware of these issues and remained silent? Ultimately, it's the people who are the victims of these alleged crimes.
~ Michale McLaughlin...Editor's Note, Norcross is innocent until proven guilty.
JEER--The thousands of Indian artifacts that were removed from the ground where the Gloucester City Senior Citizens apartments were built in 1983. For over 40 years, they have been stored in the Trenton Museum. The local government was unaware of their whereabouts until CNBNews contacted Trenton. According to that CNBNews article, the Lenape Indians had no idea that the artifacts existed until CNBNews contacted them. Wouldn't it be great if the City exhibited those historical items in the City Library and the local high schools? Both schools could offer a course about what life was like here in Gloucester City centuries ago. A history book written by Louisa Lllewelyn is available for the course. Lllewelyn, now deceased, was a long-time local teacher and former school board member. ~CNBNews Editor

JEER--New Jersey received 31,323 unaccompanied children since 2015. That is the seventh-greatest number of unaccompanied alien children, primarily arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border. In fiscal 2023, New Jersey received 5,363 UACs, according to ORR data—the fifth greatest number that year, behind Texas, California, Florida, and New York. ~Ted from Mt. Ephraim
JEER—If you stop by the Gloucester Liquor store at Broadway and Ridgeway Street for a case of beer and you think their outside sign is straight! WARNING: You should not go in because you already have enough to drink. ~Bob Bevan
JEER-State lawmakers recently voted to weaken New Jersey’s 20-year-old OPRA law. With opponents booing and hissing from the Trenton State House gallery, the measure (S2930) passed both the Senate and the Assembly. The new law will allow governments in the state to sue people for requesting too much information and make it harder for lawyers to recoup fees against the government for withholding records.
