DOWN THE SHORE: Man found Dead on Beach; Suspect Wanted for Shooting

WILDWOOD CREST (July 11, 2024)-- According to the Cape May Herald a man was found unconscious and unresponsive on the Myrtle Avenue beach Tuesday morning, July 2.

The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, along with the New Jersey Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, responded to assist with the investigation. A short time later, notification was made to the next of kin.

The cause of death has not been determined and is pending an autopsy; the incident is still under investigation. There was no indication of foul play, police said.

Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Wildwood Police Chief Joseph Murphy stated in a release on July 10 that a shooting took place in the 3800 block of Pacific Avenue. A subsequent post on the Wildwood Police Department’s Facebook page clarified that the shooting occurred on Tuesday, July 9, at around 10:30 p.m.

Police assert that the shooting left an innocent bystander critically wounded, and the individual was in critical condition at Atlantic Regional Medical Center, Atlantic City Division. Furthermore, authorities firmly declared that the suspect, William C. Hoyle, remains at large, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest, reported the Cape May Herald.
