MOUNT EPHRAIM, NJ (CNBNews)(July 12, 2024)--Today, Friday, around 11:30 AM, a motorist hit a fawn that ran across the Black Horse Pike at the Black Horse Pike and Carlisle Avenue near the Black Horse Diner.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. However, due to its injuries, the deer had to be euthanized. A witness described the deer as a fawn with spots, and mentioned that it was visibly distressed and struggling to breathe. As a result of the accident, traffic was backed up from the Black Horse Pike in the Fairview section of Camden City south on the pike to Bellmawr at the 295 overpass.
The Audubon Fire Department responded to the scene along with the Mount Ephraim Police.
A few years ago in Gloucester City, a fawn and its mother were spotted during the day at the Cedar Grove Cemetery on Market Street. According to neighbors, the mother deer easily jumped over the five-foot high spiked fence, but the fawn got stuck in the spikes when it tried to follow her. Unfortunately, Gloucester City police had to euthanize the fawn. While walking along Market Street that day, Peyton and I could still see the blood from the deer on the fence and the grass.
